Our Verdict
I assume you can apply for and get this card without any student loans with Laurel and redeem the sign up bonus for $250, but not confident that’s correct. Laurel Road briefly offered a $500 checking bonus that also didn’t required any loans before that was changed. In any case a $250 sign up bonus isn’t that interesting, whereas $500 is significantly more interesting.

@will @chucksithe Referral links offer a $400 split (earned on card approval) that's determined by the referrer (and this bonus term is not visible during application to the referee). This is very lucrative for P2/P3 or for being referred by someone trustworthy (it does put your full name in the referral link). The $400 can be split in any amount as decided by the referrer, and is paid out upon approval without any spend requirement. There is no mention of it only being $400 if used toward a student loan - so it should be a real $400 cash split between the people, max 10 referrals per calendar year.
Example: I could refer someone for $200 for each of us, and after approval we both get $200 within 45 days of first statement closing date.

How new is this credit card? Just wondering if this will be reported to my credit report? Some newer credit cards from HMBradley and Cardless are not being reported.
