Our Verdict

Nice deal, even better if the terms aren’t enforced and it works on gift cards; let us know if you try (worked for this person). Check out this post to learn more about Amex Offer deals.

What card are you seeing this on? I don’t see it for my Amex Plat. Are Amex offers like this targeted?

Well, there is kind of a way.

When these offers arise, usually or more interest to me is the get $X.00 off if you spend $Y.00, in the past if you can find a Marriott that sells gift cards and use your AMEX at the front desk, you get the statement credit.

I don’t see why it should not work with Membership Rewards as a bonus instead of a statement credit.

The harder thing to do is find a Marriott that sells gift cards because not all of them do.

And be mindful of the Terms and Conditions, if it says only Marriott hotels, JW Marriott properties or any other usually do not work!

Ah, this one is quite expansive permitting all Marriott brands. In the past, most have been exclusionary limited to one specific brand. Perhaps because this give you MR points, it is less exclusionary.

The past offers — which were quite better because I have little use of MR points — gave a statement credit and were to the best of my knowledge, limited to a specific brand type.

I verified via chat with Amex rep that multiple charges will work towards the $300 requirement.

Odd – I asked about it on chat and the rep said it had to be one $300+ charge

Ugh. I am planning to do two stays. In fact, just finished the first one. Did not get the usual Amex offers email about it. Any DPs on multiple stays already ?

Going today to give it a try, will add DP either way.
Hopefully get a decent resell rate for the GC or if not I’ll just hang onto it for some travel this summer.

DP: purchased one $300 GC at a Marriott hotel 12/19/17, immediately got the “You’ve used an offer” email from Amex.
Purchase posted this morning 12/21/17 & I see 4,000 points pending in my MRP account. Couldn’t have been easier.

Valid 12/15/17 – 2/28/17

should be 2/28/18?

Although not related to this offer, with AMEX going to issue Marriott denominated credit cards, it is likely that at some point in the future, we will see the return of Marriott Rewards to the Membership Rewards travel choice transfers, especially since Starwood transfers will likely be removed some time in 2019.

were you staying there and bought the gift card? I’m not staying at any marriotts for our trip in december but wondering if I could just pick up a gift card or get a massage and it would work?

I wasn’t staying at the hotel. Just walked in and asked nicely if they were selling Marriott gift cards. YMMV, only 1 out of the 4 locations I tried had gift cards for sale.
