Our Verdict
You used to be able to open this account for $250 even if you weren’t targeted, but that was shut down. This is the same offer but only for $100. Still not a bad bonus considering it’s $100, doesn’t require a direct deposit and you can fund with a credit card. I doubt we will see a $250 public bonuses and I think the chances of being targeted would be quite low. Because of all that I will be adding it to the best checking bonus list.

Frustrating experience but was resolved in my favor with help from the CFPB (Consumerfinance.gov)
August 9th – Did the telephone call to open the account with representative as was advised on here and the agent inputted the promotion code.
While trying to credit the account with Fidelity Rewards Visa, the credit card denied the effort to credit account $1,000
Later that day finished the application online by crediting the TCF account with a Citi DoubleCash which posted as purchase for $1,000
Sept. 12th – $500 transferred to account from Fidelity Cash Management
Sept. 25th – Called TCF rep to ask why I didn’t receive bonus yet. He said I met requirements, but then he said did I open the account online? and what was the promotion code used? I said I did it on the phone, he made me read the mailer that said you have to open it in branch, and I said the mailer didn’t explicitly say you can’t do it over the phone and that customer support said it was fine when I called to open account.
He reluctantly said I would get the bonus the next day.
Sept. 26th – No bonus as promised
Sept. 27th – Called TCF rep, and rep said she would have to do research and maybe they’ll call me back in a few days to let me know whether or not they”ll give me a bonus.
Sept. 27th – Filed complaint with CFPB
Oct. 12th – Bonus posted, and company “apologizes” but claims I opened the account online without the promotion bonus code.
appears to be dead
Confirming this DP. Still a good option for 1k of credit card funding if you live in one of the states.
Funded $1K from Arrival+. Bonus posted 3 days later. Waiting for debit card.
Would buying a $250 MO at Walmart or grocery store satisfy the $250 debit card purchase requirement?
The direct link does not go to the offer only the home website – is that correct? I can’t find any info regarding the offer on their site.
Looks like the bonus might be dead unfortunately.
Opened 9/13
9/15 $1000 from Fidelity VISA posted to account (not sure if purchase, haven’t received statement yet)
9/18 $100 Reward posted
9/23 Received debit card
Received reward before even receiving the debit card, but I’ll still make the $250 purchase to ensure it isn’t reversed.
No data points yet on multiple per household, so I’ll try one with my spouse to see if they will post.
Thanks, let us know if it posts as a purchase.
Confirmed on the Fidelity VISA statement it posted as purchase.
Does TCF require you to purchase paper checks when signing up online? The $18 (or so) cost for a box of checks always stopped me from applying online.
DP – I thought I wouldn’t get the $250 bonus because they started shutting it down, but I checked and it posted 9/5! I totally wrote it off and considered closing the account, but had a nice surprise when I logged in this morning.
I’ll try the $100 for my wife even though it says 1 per household…. something in their software allowed my $250 bonus to go through…
Anyone knows if non-citizens, resident aliens can open the account online?
Thx. Opened and funded $1k with CFU. Received initial FA but was cleared as a purchase.
Thanks, added DP.
