Our Verdict

Good deal for NFCU cardholders, apparently they offer this every December so might be worth saving points for next year if you don’t have enough this year.

  • Has anyone tried Plastiq payment with this card recently? People say this cards does NOT earn points on Plastiq. I tried it and cancelled the transaction after reading the comments here a couple of days ago. Surprisingly I saw the rewards posted and then got deducted with the refund. Am I supposed to get the rewards on Plastiq?

  • i just applied to nfcu 2 days ago. they didnt ask for any doc's, i told them my father was a veteran. we never shared the same address. go for it.

    • Be aware that they will cancel any accounts if they find out it was fraudulently opened, and yes, they do tend to check even if they don't catch it at first. If one doesn't fall within the 'Field of Membership', I wouldn't suggest even trying to open accounts. That being said, there are *many* ways to qualify these days. Just check their site for the ways one can qualify and see.

  • I have an NFCU account, but I'm not familiar with this at all. Are these from debit card cashback points? Is the idea that it's a good deal as they're greater than 1:1 point to cents?

      • @guest_853911 It's more than just Flagship. I have the MoreRewards card and I see the discount. P2 has GoRewards and has it too. So, I would assume it is for any NFCU CC, or at least the ones that earn points.

@guest_853871 You need a NFCU CC to take advantage of this, as the debit card with your checking account doesn't earn points (no matter what tier, I believe).

@will Might be a good idea to specify NFCU CC holder, not account holder, in our verdict.

  • So use a NFCU credit card (e.g. cashRewards) and pay for expenses to earn points. Then redeem points for any Visa Award debit card to get the 10% discount. Is this correct? Thanks.

    • @guest_853848 Probably. I don't have the cashRewards card, but you can look and see if you are eligible. When you go to redeem your NFCU credit card rewards, if you have the ability to purchase NFCU Visa award cards, it should show the cost is 10% off up until Dec 11th.

And, like someone else said, the threshold is $50 and discounted to 4500 pts. I assume a cashRewards would say $45 redemption for a $50 card, if available.

  • Darn, I just redeemed 80,000 points last week. Didn't know they ran this every December... oh well.

  • If you don't have enough points at the moment, you can just make purchases to get enough points pretty quickly. Because the rewards points post pretty much right after the transactions post, at least on the flagship card.

    • Hello Hawaii man, I'm from Hawaii too. Have you tried Plastiq payment with this card recently? People say this cards does NOT earn points on Plastiq. I tried pay and cancelled the transaction after reading the comments here a couple of days ago. Surprisingly I saw the rewards posted and then got deducted with the refund. Am I supposed to get the rewards on Plastiq?

  • Currently the Fine Print section says "Valid until November 11th, 2019". I assume this is a typo, as that was almost a month ago.

  • It looks like 10% off ALL the Awards cards as is usual when they run this promo for the holidays. Cards start at $50 / 4500 points (with today's discount).

Thx for the post as I don't seem to have gotten an email this year.
