New American Express Authorized User Bonuses – List Of Offers & Everything You Need To Know

This was originally posted on October 16th, 2017. Reposting on November 12th, 2017 because offers on the Platinum card have been sent out.

Note, these offers are different to the ones previously offered (e.g new expiration dates). A lot of cardholders are being targeted even if they were targeted before.

The Offers

American Express Platinum

No direct link. Hat tip to Miles to Memories

  • Add an authorized user and earn 5,000 bonus points when they spend $500+. Can add a total of four authorized users for a maximum of 20,000 points.

Hilton Honors Surpass

Direct link to offer Hat tip to reader @Wizmanison

  • Add an authorized user and earn 5,000 bonus points when they spend $250+. Can add a total of four authorized users for a maximum of 20,000 points.

Blue Cash Everyday

Hat tip to reader @jtgtix

  • Add an authorized user and receive $25 points when they spend $250+. Can add a total of 4 authorized users for a maximum of $100.

Premier Rewards Gold

Hat tip to reader @kkfr888

  • Add an authorized user and earn 5,000 bonus points when they spend $500+. Can add a total of four authorized users for a maximum of 20,000 points.

What You Should Know

  • If you aren’t targeted, call American Express to see if they can add the offer to your account. This is usually possible. At the moment the direct links don’t seem to be working either, so calling in regardless of whether you received an e-mail or not seems like it’s required.
  • SSN is not required when you add an authorized user, but you need to provide one within 60 days of account opening (people have been denied the bonus in the past for not providing this in time)
  • American Express authorized user accounts do count towards your Chase 5/24 status/total.

F.A.Q

Does being added as an authorized user prevent you from getting the sign up bonus?

No, you can be added as an authorized and then sign up for the card as the primary cardholder and still receive the sign up bonus.

Who needs to spend the money to trigger the bonus?

Authorized user needs to complete the spend requirement. Keep in mind authorized users have their own unique card number so this is easy to track. It’s highly unlikely that spend completed by the primary cardholder will trigger the bonus.

Was just offered via chat (asking for contactless card for new PRG) to add an additional user. I asked if there is a bonus. He said yes, 5k for $500 in 3 months up to 4 users. He also said all is needed is Full Name, DOB, and SSN (optional). Was gonna add my ‘dog’ but might ask a friend as we will need contactless cards for London transit.

Still working through my missing AU bonuses – chat is useless. I am at the 12 week mark on several, and their answer is to submit it and then I need to contact them in a couple weeks to see the status.

I called in, however, and they created a case to have all missing points credited to the account, and they would contact me in 3-5 business days.

Not ideal, but better than something maybe happening for one of the missing bonuses, and I have to check back in a couple of weeks.

Incidentally, I submitted all AUs at the same time, as instructed in the original offer. Have the new one as well, but don’t know that I will go for it unless the other points post. We’ll see.

Hey, I am on the same boat. Only got 1 out of 4 PRG bonuses to post. Let me know how it goes for you. I dont think I am at 12 weeks just yet.

Just got a call from them. They posted two more of the bonuses, but the how and why doesn’t make particular sense.

According to their records, The bonus for AU #1 posted immediately after the spend (roughly 2 days later). The bonus for AU #2 just posted – after 12 weeks. I agree with this part.

The bonus for AU #3 also posted – just after 8 weeks. Oddly enough, this was the fourth card to meet spend, because of a delay in the pending charge being claimed.

The final card, AU #4, is still waiting for its bonus. It is past the 8 week mark, so has therefore not 12 weeks, and I will have to wait another 3 weeks or so and contact them again.

The strange thing is that AU #4 was actually the third to meet spend. Perhaps because the pending charge actually hit their systems first, it put AU #3 in line first – but I still have no idea why the bonus was paid out prior to the 12 week mark.

I also had a 5000 point bonus on a Platinum card, and I think this may have something to do with it – they seemed to think that I had already received all 20K points, so it is possible if I didn’t have this, I may have received the bonus on AU #4 as well. After a while of talking them through it, they recognized that a “Plat” bonus is not equal to “PRG”…

Thank you for the update. I have not contacted them since I would open the cards without a SSN, meet the spend requirement pretty quickly. I got one of the bonuses to post. The other 3 have not yet posted. I am not even sure if those cards are active as they close them down after like 90 days if you do not provide SSN.

I did that on my Everyday, and received the bonus on the first card, but not the other three, and they were closed before the bonus posted on those.

On the PRG, I called in to activate with SSN (using mine, the same as the primary card), and so they stayed active, even past the 90 day window. I did the same on the Platinum cards.

The next time – if there is a next time – I get the chance for an AU, I will add AUs one at a time, rather than all at once, and that seems to allow the bonus to post correctly, right after meeting the spend requirement.

Finally received the last bonus (#4), after calling in again. I called after 12 weeks, only to be told to wait and see if the system will apply it now that 12 weeks had passed. It didn’t. I called back, and they did it manually. So the PRG is done. Now a few more weeks and to go through it all again for the Platinum…

Does adding yourself count toward 5/24 as well?

Does the AU spend count towards the primary holder MSR spend? Just applied for 100k 5k spend in 3 months, so wondering if I can knock out both AU and MSR at the same time.

I do believe these would be separate, but someone else could chime in separate. If the AU spend was just on “any” card on the account, that’s one thing, but seeing as they all have different Credit Card numbers, it seems pretty easy to be sure they wont count together. Worth a shot, but then again “testing” this may require the risk of losing one of the bonuses.. so there is that.

surprised everyone is excited about this. they must be n00b or have legit holiday spend coming up. IMHO this is a TRAP. no way am i going to stick my head out and offer myself as a sacrifice to test the new amex TC. i pass. will watch others leap into the fire. if they get the bonus, good for you, but i value my amex relationship too much to get Serve Blue Bird/Blue Balls banned for life.

Has anyone double dipped on the Amex AU offers & gotten bonuses to post on the 2nd set? I see that many of the AU offers have been extended/possibly new or are considered new offers again. I think some were renewed last month as well, so for those that jumped on it – did your bonuses post again? Fyi first round im considering was during the summer.

I’ve done the Plat & Surpass bonuses once already. Now wondering if I can do em again for a fresh set of bonuses.

Would love to get 5000 point for Amex platinum by adding my daughter as AU but she is only 3. I have added her to Chase and Citi for AU bonus without problem.

I’ve actually got this on my no-fee Hilton card (5k for $250). No joy on Platinum (already did 3 AUs there), EDP, BCP, SPG, Delta Gold.

My wife has 1.5k for $150 on her ED, plus the same no-fee Hilton offer I have, plus 5k for $500 on Platinum (already did 3 AUs there too). Nothing for SPG or Delta Gold.

Like others have mentioned, only one of the four (the first one you enter) received the 5k points from the promo a few months back. Will be a hassle to fight for the other 15k points. I’d hold off on this. Maybe adding one at a time on the same day is the way to go. But if I recall correctly, the first offer indicated you had to add all 4 au at once. Ironic how their own terms messed up the promotion.
