Staples is running two deals next week, 12/4 – 12/10:
- Buy $300 in Amex gift cards and get a $20 Staples gift card via the Staples Easy Rebate system
- Get 20% off when you buy $50 in select gift cards
The picture shows Toys R Us, Petco, and XBox, but the wording indicates there might be other brands as well. We’ll see.
Our Verdict
The Amex gift card deal will be in-store only. The 20% discount offer might be online; we’ll have to wait and see. If it works online, it will be even more useful since it can then stack with the $20 off $100 Amex Offer.

So anybody know what else gc are on sale? My staples had tag only on petco and Lowe’s. Lowe’s was 10% off though.

Clearly I’m missing something on this and similar offers. What’s so great about staples gift cards? Is it simply a play to wait for Free after rebate spend? Thanks.
What is wrong with staples gift cards? Just because you cannot use them to purchase other gift cards does not make them useless????
And yes you are right the ideal scenario would be to say buy a case of paper for $59 and get a $50 visa card in that way you would be able to change the staples cards to a more flexible currency.
Another Amex gift card deal (small 5% discount) – I received an email from Amex with a code to buy Amex gift cards fee-free and shipping free with promo CYBER16. I assume many with Amex CCs received the same email. I can then stack with Amex offer $10 statement credit with $200 amex gift card purchase so $190 for $200 Amex gift card. I have this Amex offer on several cards so I can get multiple discounts. Not too bad for Xmas shopping.

When they say that you’ll get back a “$20 Staples gift card” are they talking about a Staples Prepaid Visa gift card or a conventional staples gift card?

The Amex gift card deal if for in-store only. The Amex Offer deal is for online only.
How hard are AmEx gift cards to liquidate? I would assume near impossible?

Correct, many Amex cards allow you to spend as much as you want. Or perhaps you meant something else. I guess you should have been more clear.
usually with the VISA/MC it would stated 1 rebate per household.
this one isnt.
in the past there was no limit on the rebates.
