No direct link, check your local store to find this offer

  • Office Depot/Max are offering a $15 instant discount when you buy $300 in Visa gift cards this week.

The Fine Print

  • Limit one (1) offer per household/business.
  • Discount applied at register.
  • Offer valid 3/8/20 – 3/14/20.
  • Offer valid in store on Visa Gift Cards only.

Our Verdict

This one is not showing up in the circular, but it’s appearing in stores, reportedly As always, it’ll be store dependent how many times they let you come back during the week.

The $15 discount more-than-covers the purchase fees which are $6.95 for a $200 card and $5.95 for $100 card. Lots of people like racking up their INK points or another card that offers a bonus at office supply stores.

  • LOL story- buying MO at WM, machine gets jammed, cashier says it b/c I used GC's. Call over the manager who says the MO won't print, she'll have to give me cash back!!

  • Hi - noob here. Can I purchase these giftcards to meet bonus spending requirement? Just got the Hyatt Chase card with a 6k spending for 50k points.

  • Just went to my local Office Depot and they have no gift cards at all - of any type. Clerk said they aren't allowed to sell gift cards anymore. I'll have to check out a few others in my area tomorrow.

  • My OD is now out of the Metabank 25-200 variable VGCs (only partially my fault), and the largest fixed VGC they have is $100. They had a couple "Five Back" variable 25-200 VGCs, Any issues with these? This brand is new to me.

    • I picked up the last two Five Back cards today, they are included in the promotion.

  • Payce is still offering 5% back at OD. YMMV for any of these gift card purchases getting paid out of course. Fwiw I'm currently seeing tracking details on my Staples VGC transactions from late last month.

  • Visited three stores today. Two asked for an ID matching my card. One said that they had to call it in for any GC purchase of $400+, so I didn't buy there. (It was the store manager, though, so if I catch them other times in the week when it's not the SM, I may have better luck.)

    • I don't get asked for ID and they don't know me but in the 4-5 times I've been in my local OD, I have been the only one. So I think they're just happy to ring up anything, even if it's just gift cards.

    • It doesn't seem unreasonable that they ask to check your ID for a large credit card purchase of cash equivalents.

      • I agree. No one said that it was unreasonable, and the stores that asked were the ones I actually purchased from.

      • The card issuer. Problem with that is that the call ends up pre-authorizing for the amount of purchase, above and beyond the purchase itself. The pre-auth doesn't fall off for over a week.

  • Anyone have any datapoints about Amex's stance on credit limit cycling?

(I already maxed out my yearly limit on my 2 Ink cards and only have my SimplyCash left for the 5%. CL is kinda low though, so thinking about doing some cycling...)
