Check your Office Depot/Max store for the following deal:

The Fine Print

  • Valid 3/7/21 – 3/13/21
  • Limit 1 per customer

Our Verdict

This deal is probably available nationwide at all Office Depot/Max locations. If you buy a $200 Visa gift card and a $100 Visa gift card, the total will come out to $297.90; or buy two $200 Visa gift cards for a total of $398.90. Use a card like the INK Cash/Plus which earns 5x at office supply stores. Dosh offers 2% back at Office Depot/Max, though the terms exclude gift cards from earning.

  • If you haven't acted on this yet, please do call your local store before visiting so they can tell you if they're still doing this promotion or not. Our stores here have shut down gift card purchases of more than $100 per customer per day because people were being scammed and required to pay in gift cards the ransoms to their scammers.

    • My local stores didn't shut down but has a new purchase limit of 2 cards maximum. Before you can buy as many cards as you wish as long as together in one transaction. I know for this promotion it's better to buy 2 cards than more as you only get $15 off no matter how much you spend (>$300), but i was looking to redeem an amex offer ($25 off on $500+ purchase in one transaction) so i tried to buy 3 cards but was shot down at both locations.

      • Its always ymmv, went one store, cashier saw me have 4 cards and disappeared for 4 minutes and came back said one or 2 cards only, left store with 2 cards; went another one 7 miles away and decided to buy 3 for 600$, system automatically flags for manager override, it was successful. I didn't check if i got my 25$ Amex credit yet.

  • Anyone tried to buy mo at meijer?

I tried to buy mo at Meijer this Monday. Rejected by the machine. It worked many times until this week.

A friend also claimed that he couldn't buy either recently with a US bank issued vgc.

So now for me the only way to use metabank vgc is some Walmart cashiers with good luck.

  • Had a good day with this today. I had gotten a new BOA TR, paid auto insurance online a few weeks back and the $250 worth of points are just staring at me while I wait for the statement to close this week. We are going to eventually lose our BOA Plat. rewards status so, I really wanted this deal to increase my redemptions, albeit dining and not so much travel.

Plenty of inventory, picked up $200 and $100 plain GCs. Decided to try busy Sam's Club for gas since the price is near $2.89 p/g at some stations. Sam's is close to another OD, so I checked it out for GE GCs for an upcoming road trip. Got the supervisor to check the cabinets and he found what I wanted. Didn't mind that I had been at another store, same day. Picked up 2 and another type Everywhere Visa. Less than $600 with that small profit.

I should have almost $300 points to redeem and when they post, I'll call BOA and ask for the $ ACH.

So much easier than a bank bonus. :)

    • Can confirm on variables. Bought two $150 ones --didn't have to say anything, the $15 off applied automatically and I paid with a credit card. Didn't have to use OD rewards account. D0sh has tracked the purchase. Thanks DoC!

    • I also can confirm.

Yesterday I was moving to fast and grabbed the carbon fiber 20-200. I didn't realize until I was checking out and the girl asked me how much.

Today I bought the blue 200. Hope these work at WM one swipe since it issued by Sunrise.

      • Nope. I put 2 of the $20-$200 on my CIC no problem. Since the check-out guy was a little unclear about the promo, we first tried 1 $20-$200 at $200, and 1 fixed $100, which also triggered the promo, but we canceled that order and did the 2x variables at $200/ea. So, any combo works, as long as it's more than $300.

        • Ahh, okay, I thought we were discussing the $500 variables - IIRC, those used to be available in OD but only for cash payment

  • I don't have the heart to do this one. "Hurray we have a customer!.. oh a gift card that cost us money.. coming right up sir" lol

  • Was hoping for this. Thanks DOC for keeping us informed and giving us so many options to consider, also!

(Staples was a bust locally last week)

      • How about AMEX cards under independent banks? Would that just be dependent on the bank itself?

          • I didn't want to agree with you, but after trying to use an AMEX GC I bought in local retail for a 5% kickback, I was unable to pay an internet bill with it. I tried to register it but no success. The card is good for swipe in person. But, I wanted to use to pay bill online.

  • Now if these gift cards were ever available in my OfficeMax stores the it would be nice.

    • you're the guy on big island yeah? i'm from maui. your ODOMs don't carry any VGCs? how about the Everywhere ones?

      • Ala Moana Blvd store has this offer sign up too. Have the BoA MSR to work on, otherwise I would have tried for this one. Had 100s, 20-200s.

  • Is the “1 per customer” restriction per visit or enforced by allowing only one rebate for a given credit card for the entire promo period?

    • It is enforced in my local store per visit. I think I was able to talk them into it with a supervisor, but I didn't want to be identified as the one who would always try to twist their arms every visit.

If you mean separate visits, YMMV is probably only advice.

    • only ONE discount would show up regardless how many $300 you buy in single transaction. OD pos is programmed like that for AGES.

    • AFAIK the limit is base on "per transaction." You can't buy $600 on one transaction and expect 2x discount. (Used to be ok because the limit was 2.) Also, the limit 1 tranction per person per day is trongly enforced by the cashiers, at least in my area. So doing multiple transactions in one visit is nearly impossible for me. I can, however, stop by a few times during the week of promotion. The limit isn't based on the credit card you used to pay also.
