Office Depot/Max Now Selling $500 Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards

@konorth let us know that Office Depot/Max’s are currently stocking $500 Visa & Mastercard gift cards, this is great news as a lot of credit cards earn at a high rate on office supply stores and it’s generally much easier and cheaper to liquidate $500 cards rather than multiple $200 gift cards. Staples are also now stocking $300 gift cards online, so obviously this is a profitable niche for office supply stores to be in (also evidenced by the fact of frequent gift card deals at those merchants).

In terms of fees, these cards are supposed to come with $5.95 in fees. That being said PointsToPointsB (who blogs at the awesome Travel Codex blog) tweeted that he was able to purchase four $500 cards (maximum allowed in one transaction) and was charged $15.80 in fees which works out to be $3.95 per $500 card.

I’m assuming they’ll work for loading at Walmart?

Excellent news anyway.

I continue to ask myself…Why do I read anybody else’s blog posts. Thank you for always being one of the first to know and always sharing the most solid info….Charlie

I continue to ask myself. why do people suck up to bloggers? Does it give you some perverse pleasure?

If there were blogger I would want to suck up to, it would be the Doctor. He doesn’t push credit card affiliate links, he publishes information that aligns with my points and miles activities, and he is very responsive to his readers.

No need to be a douche. If you don’t think this blog is worth praise, go find another.

looks like you’re the only one who’s getting perverse pleasure at the moment. 🙂

soooooooo true. Everyone can appreciate a sincere thanks, but this kind of over the top fan boi stuff is embarrassing. I see it all the time on Lucky’s infomercial, I mean “blog” as well. Just think what this person’s spouse or kids think of them – probably zero respect given …

Dear Troll, I have read hundreds useful of posts by DOC and have given exactly one complement….this one. I’m quite sure your useless post is a reflection of who you are.

Blogger should just remove posts that don’t apply to the topic, including mine right now, LOL. Insulting comments directed to the blogger or posters should be grounds for removal, IMO. You can say what you want but he doesn’t have to allow the posts. This one was fairly innocuous but some bloggers like MMS would leave the most personally insulting and vile comments (particulary about his significant other) up for all to see. I don’t know why. There is a limit and the topic is the post.

I’ve tried buying variable load visa or MC GC’s at staples and office max before, but they were unable to ring them up. Said they couldn’t specify the amount to be put on the card. Any advice???

That’s interesting to know because the fees for the $200 VGC is $6.95.

I don’t understand. Why is it so special? My OD was selling these $500 one’s (remember seeing them 9 months back). But, they didn’t allow cc to use for them. Is the news that they have started selling with cc also?? Correct me if I am wrong, these are issued by Bancorp? So on serve at walmart can only be loaded $49.99 at a time. Or it possible to load $500 in one go. Pardon my ignorance if any. Appreciate your help.

With $5.95 fee, these have got to be variable load gift cards right?

Susan

My local Office Depot store has always carried variable Visa gift card (load up to $500), but there’s a sign that says all prepaid cards are cash only. I’ve never tried to see if they actually enforce the policy.

I am not able to use these Visa/MC gift cards at any Supermarket to get a MO or load to Serve at Walmart. The moment they see a gift card, I am stopped saying I can’t use, because it does’t have my name in it.
Any ideas how to liquidate these gift cards ? Is there any other prepaid card, I can load to ?

Is OfficeMax in a conspiracy with Target? What timing…

thats awesome news, will have to pop into my local OD to check this out for myself!

They will all be gone or be pulled by Sunday. The hoggers will eliminate you. Don’t drive far with high expectations. Remember this when you come back to complain. Best advice. Get cozy with your manager and ask what day they restock, then camp out the night before and get your number in line, like Ticketmaster.

I thought they already had $500 gc, but all variable load are cash only?

Can you use Apple Pay to purchase the $500 GC at Office Depot?

Although OM/OD have merged, posts/blogs that I have read say this is available only at OM and OD doesn’t carry meta, only vanilla.
