Office Depot/Max: Spend $50 On Giftcards & Save $10 Instantly (Chipotle, Bath & Body Works & More)

The Offer

  • Office Depot/Max are offering a $10 instant discount if you purchase $50 or more in the following gift cards (giftcard wiki public resale rates in brackets):

The Fine Print

  • Limit 1 discounted offer per transaction
  • Valid 8/6/17-8/19/17

Our Verdict

Chipotle is profitable for resale without taking into account bulk reselling rates or credit card rewards. Remember to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores (up to 5x or 5% cash back). Shame there is a limit of one per transaction. Last time they offered this they also offered Mastercard as one of the options and it was limit of two per transaction, that deal didn’t last long. I suspect that Chipotle gift cards will be difficult to find.

Did it this morning. I see what everyone is saying about the number being exposed, what a flaw. I took my chance. Not sure why they don’t allow you to load the cards to their app which could reduce fraud.

I just got a tweet from Office Depot with $10 off of $50 when using Master Pass. Not certain, but if Office Depot has eGift cards, then maybe this could help some.

So take $50 worth of cards to the register and they will ring up $40?

yes it rings up as $40
If you find a friendly cashier and there is no line behind you, they will ring up a few transactions separately for you

I don’t like OD/OM any more than you do, but I found your statement quite biased and opinionated. POS security was built to protect the stores against fraudulence and loss, not to provide convenience for MSers. How often do you see people use the same credit card in 4 transactions back to back? Don’t be a man child and call everything BS simply because it doesn’t work your way. Of course at some point on your MS road you will encounter some people being jerks and give you pushbacks, but unfortunately this is part of the MS game. Just brush your shoulder and move on.

Buying merchant gift cards isn’t MS. OD/OM marketing and promotions are a poor value for normal customers as well as well. And I have moved on from OD/OM because their corporate policies and implementations are “being jerks”.

Hah – don’t tell me you are going to eat thousands of dollars worth of Chipotle all by yourself. Soothe yourself all you want, at the end of the day you know it’s MS. No ‘normal’ person complaints about restrictions like these.

OD/OM had become such a PITA I don’t bother with their GC deals anymore. Bad for them since they don’t have any good product pricing in general so they never get my business.

Limit 1 offer per transaction. Then their POS will stop working properly if you use the same credit card in 4 transactions back to back. Stupid BS fraud controls being tripped due to poor promotions.

Not worth the time wasted dealing with them. It’s clear they don’t want their customers to spend money on the gift card offers. Unfortunately for them they don’t have any enticing product offerings in their store to make me want to shop there otherwise. Staples does a much better job. At least I can buy my Poland Spring water cases at Staples.

Does this work if you get 2 $25 gift cards? Or do they have to be $50 cards?

2 – $25 works just fine

Careful of the Chioptle cards. Those at our OM are the kind that have no PIN and the card # is clearly exposed. These are easily scammed by thieves taking a few off the rack, carry around the store as they “shop” and copy down the card #’s and then just put them back on the rack and wait for someone to buy and activate them later. Gift cards with no PIN# and exposed card #’s are just begging to be scammed.

About 10 years ago many of us were victimized in a similar way by a few unscrupulous Macy’s employees. I was preparing for a shopping spree the next day and called the automated line to check the card balances, shocked to find that they were all zero. To their credit Macy’s apologized and promptly replaced each of the cards. The scam was quite widespread at the time.

Store employees could easily do this and there’s no way to trace it back them. Just blame it on customers. Why do these stores sell cards packaged this way? How hard is it to add a covered PIN? You’d think with all this fraud paranoia going around stores wouldn’t be making it so easy for scammers. Weird.
