Our Verdict
Personal Capital is similar to Mint.com but focuses on investment accounts more than Mint. Previously they have offered a $20 Amazon gift card, now it’s $50. It’s not clear how you get the $50, as the fine print still mentions the Amazon deal. It also looks like you need to generate a new link, as all the old links are showing the $20 Amazon gift card deal. If for some reason only some people are targeted for the $50 deal, DO NOT POST YOUR LINK FOR A WORSE DEAL. If readers do that, they will banned from posting links in this and future referral link posts.

Referred someone some time ago, never received the bonus.
Not sure if you know but it’s a two step referral process…just signing up doesn’t do anything; they still have to link a qualified investment account worth more than $1000. Only then does each party receive the referral bonus.

I’m a paid financial advisory customer for PC and love these guys! Although my referral link gets us each $100 Amazon versus the $50 in the post. Only requirement is to link a qualifying investment account with more than a $1000 balance. Most any brokerage or retirement accounts should qualify. And as an added bonus, if anybody decides to take the next step and become an advisory customer, the referral link also qualifies each of us to receive 3 free months of advisory (valued at .89% of assets under management)

I believe it’s targeted too. If you signed up and did almost nothing with Personal Capital like me, you don’t get rewarded apparently.
I periodically get emails from them with subject “Share Personal Capital and you’ll each get $20, on us”, which has a link to get my referral link. (But I haven’t seen anything about a higher bonus.)
Darn, should’ve held out for the $100! Oh well, still got $50. Btw, my account shows $20 if I refer, so there is definitely some targeting going on here.

I have one already so I signed up using this link for my wife. I can see a $20 referral link in mine constantly but not in hers. Suspecting that if you are referred via a $100 link you lose the eligibility of referral.

I think the key to receipt of the bonus, which I missed before is that “Offer valid only for new customers who link [within 30 days of signing up] a qualified investment account (e.g. taxable brokerage, 401k, IRA, 529, etc) [and that account must have at least $1k balance].” I was disappointed when my referral did not receive the gift card as promised. So I went back and looked at the full T&Cs, which required the linking of a specific type of account within a certain amount of time. Let me know if you want the full terms and conditions for the $100 Amazon GC offer, without which referrals [and the referree] will not receive this signup offer.
Does the account have to stay linked, or can one change the password afterward (plugging the security hole of providing a third-party with login information as opposed to authorization to access information)?
If the offer works on logging in once, not keeping credentials up to date, it seems like a really easy $100.
Did not get the amazon GC last time, and did not like giving them my info. Also they will harass you for a while via phone.
