Plenti Set to Launch Tomorrow, Here’s What We Know…

Plenti Launches

In March, AmEx announced a new loyalty program called Plenti, in partnership with Rite Aid, ExxonMobil, AT&T, Hulu, Macy’s, Direct Energy, and Nationwide. The launch date has been announced as Monday 5/4/15 (that’s tomorrow). (HT: Deal Mommy)

Thus far, it appears that Rite Aid is furthest along in actually getting the program up and running. Numerous members of Rite Aid’s store loyalty program report on receiving a Plenti card in the mail. The card won’t be usable until activating it after May 4.

Details

Here’s some more details about some of the Plenti partners:

  • Rite Aid also has a page dedicated to explaining how the program will work. It’s pretty confusing being that Rite Aid currently has two store loyalty programs running currently, one of which will be replaced by the Plenti program. The +Up program will transition over to Plenti while the Wellness+ will remain. The new Plenti card will have to be linked to the Plenti card in-store at Rite Aid so that you’ll be able to earn Wellness+ points with just scanning your Plenti card (or is it the other way around?). Cards can be linked starting today, 5/3/15.
  • Exxon also mentions the Plenti program on their home page. When clicking the “Learn More” button on the page, it just redirects to the original press release from back in March when the program was originally announced. We did report, however, that the program is starting to show up on Exxon pumps.
  • AT&T gives a few details about how points will be earned: “AT&T customers will have the opportunity to earn points in many ways including on their monthly wireless spend when signed up for paperless billing, adding a new line of service, or making eligible purchases at participating AT&T locations.”
  • Macy’s mentions that Macy’s store credit cardholders will earn more points on their purchases when they pay with the card.

Aside from Rite Aid loyalty members who were getting the Plenti cards in the mail, there doesn’t yet appear to be any way to get the card. Presumably, it will be possible to order starting tomorrow.

Final Thoughts

There’s still a lot we don’t know about the program, such as which exact items/services will earn Plenti points. In the best scenario, the program will offer 1% back on all purchases at all the partners, which would mean, for example, an additional 1% off all gas purchases at Exxon.

It’s not entirely clear that this is the case. We also don’t know if Plenti points can be earned for online purchases from the likes of Macy’s.

  • AT&T mentions earning points on your ordinary wireless bill only if you’re signed up for paperless statements. They mention further that there will be bonus points for adding a line. (Bear in mind that you can often get cashback from a portal for activating a new line. We don’t know if the portal will double-dip with Plenti or not.)
  • Rite Aid puts a more general clause, “…earn Plenti points when they make eligible purchases”. In the original press release it sounded as if not all purchases made at Rite Aid will earn points, “earn Plenti points by taking advantage of special offers on a wide range of beauty, health and wellness and everyday items at Rite Aid”.
  • Nationwide Here’s a quote from the original press release: “Earn Plenti points for eligible Nationwide auto or property insurance.” Sounds like it will be 1% back on your car/property insurance.
  • Exxon Here’s quote from the original press release: “Earn Plenti points when buying a tank of fuel at a participating Exxon- or Mobil-branded service station…”. Sounds like 1% back on ordinary gas purchases.

If it’s 1% back at these merchants it should be useful. Exxon, in particular, would be an easy way of getting a flat 1% off all gas purchases for those who use Exxon as their go-to gas station. The other stores would likewise be nice for the many who shop at those merchants often. It will also be interesting to see if any other retailers join the partnership in the future.

Hopefully, we’ll find out more within the next few days on the details of the program and how beneficial it will be for us.

  • Macy's did send a mail through usps which mentions 1 plenti point for $10 spend.

    • Not sure about the accuracy of your info. I show:

      1 point per dollar at Macy,s/macys.com;
      1 point per dollar spent on Macy's Amex at all locations that accept Amex(linking required);
      2 points per dollar on beauty and fragrance at Macy's/macys.com;
      and use Plenti points at checkout at Macy's/macys.com/certain Plenti Partners.

      Overall, an improvement over Star Rewards at Macy's because the minimum spend in store to get the best rewards seems to be gone.
