The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Plex is offering a lifetime pass for $74.99 when you use promo code PLEXFORLIFE

The Fine Print

  • This will only work for new users

Our Verdict

Previous low was $90. You can view the difference in features by clicking here. I’ve been waiting to be targeted for a discounted rate before upgrading and instantly upgraded when I saw this deal. Plex is basically a media server solution, very useful for streaming purposes.

Can I cancel and create a new account and take advantage of this. I just signed up for monthly Plex too with my old account. This is a shame.

I paid $74.99 for it in Oct 2017 as a targeted offer. It’s an incredible piece of software and worth way more than what I paid. When paired with an HDHomeRun Connect Quatro for over-the-air DVR, it can’t be beat. No monthly fees for as much super crisp HD network TV as I want, automatic recording of new episodes with commercials automatically removed, syncing between every device in your home, downloading for offline use, the list goes on and on. If you’re on the fence, get it!

Alternatively, if you have no idea what this is you probably don’t want or need it.

Plex is a media client/server thingy related to XBMC/kodi. Normal features are free, but there are features like DVR and Live TV (via tuner) that you have to pay for.

This is just for anyone else who had no idea what this was… If you don’t have this on your radar you probably don’t have any reason to look much further. It’s not a good deal unless you were already interested in something like this.

Ok, ok, you’re right. The paid features are so central to my media-watching experience that I can’t help but try to spread the word, and in a world where companies constantly hammer us with monthly fees I like to see discounted one-time fee options. In reality though, this is best suited for cord-cutting tech-savvy folks who are interested in broadcast TV. My hit rate for getting friends and family to switch over to this from paid monthly services is about as high as for getting them to carry more than 1 credit card in their wallet (in other words, zero).

I dont maintain a server or any collection for that matter to have this signed up. If I do life time premium does the music streaming is free considering I am not maintaining the music data from my server ?

I’m not sure I follow the question, but Plex is for people who maintain a computer or device that’s always on and acts as a server. I don’t know anything about how it handles music because I don’t use that feature.

Thanks. I was just curious about the music part of it. They are comparing to Spotify which makes me think that the subscriber doesn’t have to stream from his own computer.

It’s probably Tidal service you are talking about. They promote it on their page and it is compatible with plex. However, it is not included in the lifetime pass.
I was also confused about it. It would be great to have Spotify-like service for a low lifetime fee.

Avi is absolutely right. This is really superb software and I’ve been waiting for a good discount. Also, they have some perks such as a 20% discount on WD hard drives: https://www.plex.tv/plex-pass/perks/

“Previous low was $90”

The original price for the lifetime Plex Pass was actually the current promotional price of $74.99. I was fortunate enough to get mine way back before they nearly doubled all their price tiers.

I’m scratching my head as to why anyone would pay a fee, unless they just want to donate to the developers slush fund….Been using Plex with sonarr/radarr for years.
