Priority Pass Restaurant Timberline Steaks & Grille (DEN) – Shut Down On October 15th, 2019

Update: This is now confirmed, with a message appearing on the Priority Pass website:

Update 9/22/19: Servers are saying that the Timberline will close on October 15th.

Update 9/16/19: They are serving the full menu again, for some time they weren’t using the grill at all.

Update 03/01/18: According to TheWalshingMachine the Timberline restaurant has actually expanded into what ws the smoking lounge’s space. They also asked their server about the restaurant closing down and were told that everything has been pushed back and there is no indication on when it will begin. mwwalk was able to speak to a manager and was told nothing would be happening for the rest of this year. The plan is to go with a food concept they have in Downtown Denver (slightly upsale American type food), but again this won’t be happening for some time. It also isn’t clear if that new concept restaurant will be included in priority pass or not. Given that it won’t be changing until next year at the earliest it’s not something I would worry about it.

Update 02/27/18: According to Denver Business Journal the Smokin’ Bear Lodge Smoking lounge is closing on February 28th. This is owned by Mission Yogurt, who also own the Timberline Steaks & Grille and the Einstein Bros Bagels next door. The entire space will become a new restaurant according to DIA spokesman heath Montgomery. We’ve reached out to Priority Pass to try and find out when Timberline Steaks & Grille will be closing and if the replacement restaurant will be available to Priority Pass customers but they are yet to reply. Priority Pass has added another airport restaurant to their network of airport lounges, you can now get US$28 off the bill per person (e.g if you’re the primary cardholder and you bring one guest then you’ll get $56 off the bill) at the timberline steaks & grille at Denver International airport (Concourse C). The lounge is open 6-22 Sunday – Friday and 6-21 on Saturday. Lunch & Dinner menu can be found here, they also serve breakfast but I haven’t been able to locate that menu. Seems like $28 will cover most things on the menu apart from some of the more expensive steaks.

It’s nice to see priority pass adding these restaurant options, especially in locates where they have little to no lounge presence. Priority Pass has been adding more and more of these airport restaurants in recent times. For example:

One thing a lot of people mentioned is that there is limited seating here and service/food coming out is slow (e.g allow for an hour+ for your order to go through and food to arrive). The $28 also can’t be used for gratuities. You can also get free draft beer with Yelp check in.

Update: This now no longer works on take out orders.

10/18 – Just left the Timberline so it is still open, no indication they are closing, but they did stop accepting Priority Pass after 10/15 according to the bartender.

Never realized that Timberline had decent Cheesecake or Buffalo wings – popped in after a few days in Colorado.

Funny never had time or desire to get a steak at TL – not sure how the beef was – but Airport/airplane is not my idea of finding a good steak.

Still glad that we got a headsup about the closing –

Thank you for your email.

The restaurant will be removed from the program as of the 16th October.

Lounge information is updated on a daily basis and can be viewed on the website as well as the application.

We cannot confirm what will replace Timberline Steaks and Grill currently however we are always adding new lounges to the program.

I confirmed this directly with Priority Pass personnel, and the agent confirmed this with her manager to be sure. The agent advised that Priority Pass has put out a request for other restaurants and/or lounges to join Priority Pass in Denver a month ago, but have not received responses at this time, so they do not have a timetable. I was advised to keep an eye on the newsletter as it has the most up to date information. And so the waiting game begins.

Who wants to start a restaurant in DIA? Seems like an easy profit center when half the people are paying with monopoly money. “Oh, do you want a bottle of evian to go?, it is free for you…”

Judging by the steep fee charged by uber eats, grub hub, and others, PPS likely doesn’t pay the restaurant anywhere near a full dollar on the dollar (maybe 60 to 70 cents?).

Now does an airport restaurant have such a fat margin? Or was timberline simply burning their own money for promotion purposes? I’m not sure.

Fingers crossed its New Belgium or Great Divide… It won’t be Root Down as that location is ran by the same Mission Yogurt, and it’s already packed without and PP benefits.

The staff at the restaurant just told me the restaurant is not closing, they’re just leaving priority pass.

When I fed my family an essentially free steak dinner at Timberline a year or two ago, I knew the existing Priority Pass benefits were too good to last! I guess most folks have already been “kicked out” because of changes to the AMEX benefit.

This location with priority pass is actually why I’ve kept the Reserve card. Now it isn’t worth keeping with the annual fee.

What makes PP valuable is the food at lounges and restaurants.

Considering how even crappy fast-food will run you $12-15 at the airport and domestic airlines food is always a crap shoot.

Its also what makes free breakfast @ w/ hotel status, before a flight more valuable (always ask the front desk for a breakfast togo if your flight is early ~ask the night before and sometime the morning shift can also accommodate if the night desk shoots you down, occasional you get suprised with a nice snack box (status helps).

Update: That’s all folks! Answered my own question this afternoon from the priority pass website regarding Timberline Steaks in Concourse C:
Additional Information:
Please note effective 16OCT19, this location will no longer be part of the program.
(translation: no lounges at DIA except for airline clubs)
