RadPad Adds $4.95 Flat Fee For Paying Rent With Debit Card & Adds ACH Option & Lowers Credit Card Fee To 2.99%

The Changes

RadPad allows you to pay your rent using a debit card or credit card. Previously there was no fee for using a debit card, but going forward you’ll be charged a $4.95 fee. They are also adding a new ACH option that will be free. Keep in mind there is no charge for using Android Pay and a credit card until the end of the year. As part of this change it also looks like credit card fees have been reduced to 2.99% instead of the previous 3.49%.

Hey ,

I wanted to let you know that beginning today, we’re going to start charging a flat $4.95 per month to use a debit card to pay rent.

While we hate having to charge even a small fee to pay your rent with a debit card, this change is being made because of the higher costs to process debit card payments.

Every time that we charge your debit card, we pay a small fee back to our processor. We’ve been eating those fees so you didn’t have to pay them, but as more and more people have signed up to pay rent on their debit card, those fees have climbed to tens of thousands of dollars every month.

Charging a flat fee of $4.95 per month will enable us to continue investing in our product while also providing you incredible customer service anytime you need us.

If you don’t want to pay the $4.95 debit fee, we’re now offering ACH as a free option. ACH allows you to connect your bank account to RadPad and pay your landlord directly from your checking or savings account. You don’t even need to know your routing or account number to set up ACH payments.

Thanks for trusting us to pay your rent every month so you can focus on other, more important things.

Our Verdict

Not surprised by this, it’s usually volume that kills deals like this and I know people have been running significant volume through RadPad. Paying by debit card will still make sense for a lot of people, but I suspect most will be using Android Pay until at least the end of the year if possible.

It costs $0.25 + 0.05% to process a debit card transaction, and they’re charging you $4.95. What a bunch of liars!!! They should be charging $.30 per debit card transaction to “cover the cost.”

That company is rapidly going in the toilet. Great job scamming your customers with the Android Pay promotion btw. Good thing I’ve only used them once, they suck.

Which debit cards still provide rewards?

“a friend of mine” was used to charge credit cards to meet bonus spending requirements via paypal and the paypal debit card.

Not much… Discover gives 10c/transaction and a few CU has a card that gives 1 point / $2.

The debit card would be interesting with rewards checking accounts – there are a few that do not require a number of debit transactions but some total minimum value.

paypal business debit will offer 1% back for non pin transaction. radpad does trigger that.

Wow. This is a slap in the face. I would’ve appreciated it if they gave notice instead of saying “as of today”.
