Radpad Coding as Travel with Apple Pay (3x UR Angle)

As reported last week, Radpad is back in the rent payments business. Recent report confirm that Radpad is still coding as travel when the payment is made with Apple Pay (1, 2). In the past, Android Pay worked the same, though we don’t yet have data points on that. We now have reports of Radpad coding at 3x with Android Pay too (1, 2).

This is excellent news. Radpad does charge a steep 2.99% fee to use a credit card, but being that it earns Travel points, it’s now possible to ‘buy’ travel spend at 2.99%

Here’s where Radpad can be useful with Apple/Android Pay:

  • Get your $300 Sapphire Reserve credit by paying your rent
  • Meet minimum spend requirement on Sapphire Reserve (earning 3x) and Sapphire Preferred (earning 2x)
  • ‘Buy’ UR points at 1 penny per point with the Sapphire Reserve card
  • ‘Buy’ UR points at 1 penny per point with INK Preferred which also earns 3x on travel
  • ‘Buy’ ThankYou points at 1 penny per point with Citi Prestige (1) or, presumably, the Premier card

Here’s where Radpad can be useful with direct payment:

The bigger angle would be if Radpad runs any sort of promotion in the future with lower fees.

Update 4/24/17: Radpad is no longer working to earn 3x with CSR. Unclear if it’s still working for bonus points on Citi cards, but probably all Chase cards won’t work.

Is this still working as of June? Want to connect CSR to Apple Pay.

If anyone else gets the annoying Android Pay error (Code: 410) when trying to set a new payment method, I think its a bug affecting people who previously used Android Pay last year with a different credit card and are trying to change it to a new card in Android Pay. I successfully resolved the error by reconfirming/resuming my payment with the same old card that I used last year as it was pre-filled in (I’m not even sure why that worked since it was no longer in my Android Pay wallet). Then it let me go back in and change my payment method without error. No clue why it doesn’t like it when you’re first trying to resume payments. Hope this helps if anyone else runs into this error.

i know….unfortunately I only have freedom, SPG, PGR, BCE and a couple of other cards not worth mentioning..I only did it to meet the minimum spend (got all three Amex’s in the same week) and knowing that I will be using the bonus points from PGR this year towards tickets.

I’m not aware of any OSFA Amex card for travel either!

Is anyone else getting this error? I’ve been trying my android pay and getting this, “Ah! Snap! Android Pay is unavailable for this transaction. Please select another payment method. Code: 410.” Thanks.

DP: My rent payment through RadPad using Apple Pay on my CSR coded as travel and earned 3x UR and was reimbursed for travel.

Thanks DoC! Between this and funding Evansville vertical checking, I should comfortably meet my minimum spending for my CSP and CSR

Hey Chuck, you mention that this works for the ink preferred, however I can’t link my ink preferred to apple pay and other DPs agree. Is there a different method to using the ink preferred for radpad and getting the 3x?

I have the same issue. Wondering if it’ll code as travel when paying through the site.
