Update #2: It appears to be confirmed that changes are coming to the Prestige card based on this email received by Reddit user use2c.
Update: Some people are claiming that the new benefits will be as follows:
- Card will be metal, featuring mastercard logo
- ShopRunner membership
- Citi ThankYou points worth 1¢ towards cash/gift card redemption
- Citi ThankYou points can be used towards the 4th night free benefit
Obviously these new benefits have not been confirmed by Citi yet and it’s possible they will be adding more benefits, different benefits or no benefits at all. This news doesn’t come from any of our own sources, so take it with a grain of salt.
This is a longstanding rumor and something I first heard about from a normally reliable source late last year. As you all know Citi is removing a number of key benefits from the Prestige card in late July 2017 .
- The free golf benefit will be removed.
- No more American Airline redemptions at 1.6 cents-per-point.
- The travel redemption rate of 1.33 cents-per-point will be lowered to 1.25 cents-per-point.
- The fourth-night-free benefit for hotels will be based on average nightly rate instead of the 4th night’s rate.
- The fourth-night-free benefit will no longer include taxes.
- No more Admirals Club access
The rumor goes that before this date Citi will be adding a number of benefits to the Prestige card. Reddit user jlucib reports being told by a customer service representative that the changes will take place on July 17th, 2017. I haven’t been able to confirm that date but it makes sense that they would add any new benefits (or at least announce the additions) before cutting the old benefits to help retention of current cardholders.
I haven’t been able to find out the exact specifics of the changes (and believe me I’ve tried) but it might make sense to hold off on cancelling your Prestige card until we find out more. If your annual fee is due shortly then I’d recommend calling retention to see what they can do for you due to removal of benefits we listed at the start of this post.
People here are mad because they are churners only and don’t actually travel. I have received triple the annual fee in benefits this year alone. What a great card! It would surprise me though if C was to release new benefits around same time as quarterly earnings report.
i called and they told me the new update is the metal card. thats it. so i guess there is some truth to the rumor. maybe everything is all true. at least the metal card is 100% confirmed.
I don’t regret signing up for the Premier now 🙂
Yes, I’m certainly getting another Premier soon instead of this.
Does premier get the same trip cancellation and interruption benefits as prestige? Ie 3 hr delay?
Premier has trip cancellation benefits, but no benefits for 3 hour delays.
There’s a chart here with a breakdown of delay benefits by card:

When I called to cancel a couple of months ago, citing removal of the benefits as the reason, they offered me a $200 statement credit if I spent $4,000 a month for 3 months. I passed. Those rumored new benefits pale in comparison to the ones they lost.
Weak sauce. Was hoping for primary rental coverage. That would have made keeping the card alittle easier.
+1
What a joke. My AF comes up in a few days and I look forward to cancelling it
If these are their new benefits then it means they aren’t adding any benefits at all.
Metal card was stupid when Chase introduced it, AMEX doing it too just added to the stupidity, and Citi doing it …. well….. If they send me a metal card, I’ll send it back.
Shoprunner is silly, you get that with most cards anyway, and while I have it, I can’t be bothered using it. It simply isn’t of any value.
For them to get rid of the AA stuff and golf is all fine with me, I’d rather fly Spirit than AA, and golf, no thanks. In fact it’s a plus, it means they should be able to direct that money towards something better, but the above certainly isn’t it.
The only problem with this article is that it states the fourth night free benefit is being degraded – average price vs last night is not making it worse, it just changes it. Sometimes you’ll get more, sometimes you get less.
Couldn’t disagree more. The golf benefit was one of the most valuable and unique perks in the credit card world. Losing that has made this “just another generic premium card”
Are you going to do a post for those of us who will be canceling the card and are looking for options for existing points balances? How to get the most value out of one of their partners.
Generally don’t do those sort of posts because I am terrible at redeeming miles/points 🙁
I’m terrible too.
Ha! Me too. I used a service to book several award flight for me… it was well worth the fee because I would have done way worse than them.
Wow these are not benefits, they are junk. Metal card? The first one was cool. Now is more like a drawback. Trading admirals club for shoprunner? Shoprunner sucks, they give you free two day shipping but it is up to the retailer to send it on time… they can take 5 business days to ship it and then 2 days in transit for a total of 7 days…
I have had Prestige card for more than two years. Can I apply for my second Prestige and get the bonus? I know a lot of people have second AA card.
Thanks in advance.
