Sacramento International Airport (SMF) Two Escape Lounges Now Open (Free Access For Platinum Cardholders)

Update 7/9/19: According to reddit user sei-i-taishogun these lounges are now open.

As reported by The Sacramento Bee the Sacramento International Airport (SMF) will be getting two new Escape lounges in Spring. There will be one Escape lounge in each terminal. American Express Platinum cardholders are able to access Escape lounges in the United States for free, it isn’t clear what the single use price will be but at other Escape lounges it’s $40+.  Work will begin sometime in February and is expected to be completed within three months.

Looks like all Escape lounges are on Groupon. Search escape lounges groupon to find them. The normal rate is $25, discounted to $23 today only. Also most lounges give $10 off (so $30 entrance fee when booked online) with AAA card. A couple of drinks and a light meal at an airport easily costs that much.

Seeing an offer on Groupon of $23/person or $43/2 people for today only. Says normal offer is $25/$48, looks like it has to be used within 120 days.

Not a bad deal if you have a late flight out of Sacramento, since you could do work and get a meal out of it. For better or worse I fly out of there regularly for business but it is not a bad airport, a lounge would make the use case for Amex Platinum better (although I kind of need to hold $100k with Merrill in order to keep the 2.625% cash back everywhere/5.25% at GC.com, which is more useful to me; and go for Schwab’s $450 annual rate with $250k+ in assets).

Terminal A has been open for a month, Terminal B opened 3 weeks ago. 2 guests are allowed with Plat. I was at the Terminal B one opening day, really nice. However once they become well know I can see problems, it is pretty tiny.

So SACRAMENTO has 2 escape lounges, but ORD (one of the busiest airports) is still a wasteland?!

Escape is specifically concentrating on smaller airports with their new lounge offerings (Oakland, Reno, Hartford)…

I really thought these were going to be escape rooms…

Then you’d have the extra pressure of getting stuck and missing your connection. 🙂

I know it’s at least one guest…I brought a colleague of mine in to OAK a few weeks ago…she’s now considering the Amex Plat Card too!!

Smurf gets two?! Hmm, wonder if Escape is finding a market in some of the “smaller” airports- like the RNO lounge they opened last year.

I just went to that lounge in RNO and was really impressed. Not busy, comfy, and had wonderful food. I’m stoked it isn’t apart of PP or it would be packed!

“Smaller” is right. I was shocked when I heard they opened an Escape lounge in GSP. That airport only has 13 gates!
