The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Southwest is offering a strange companion flies free promotion:
    • Register now, then purchase one round trip or two one-way flights by 4/5.
    • Travel by 5/24.
    • Companion flies free* with you 8/15-9/30/2023. Not valid on flights purchased with Rapid Rewards® points.

Our Verdict

Obviously not as good as a companion pass as it’s only for a month and a half and doesn’t work on award flights but could still be useful for a lot of people.

    • Basically not paying with Rapid Rewards points is considered Qualifying Revenue Flights.

  • I received an inflight offer yesterday for the SW Priority, same 50k pts for $1k spend plus a 25% off fare voucher. Language did not appear to disallow stacking voucher with companion pass. Someone might find stacking that voucher with this offer useful on high value tickets, otherwise the inflight offer was uninteresting.

  • They better keep this award tickets don't qualify for companion fares crap away from the actual companion pass.

    • What if you couldn't book a companion on award flights, AND you could only get one companion flight per year, AND you had to pay $99 to use it. .

But, you got it automatically for opening a credit card and you could use it for an overseas open jaw

      • @scott, I think it is neither. Pay cash for flight to earn CP and pay cash for flight to use CP.

Terms say "Valid on new qualifying revenue flights booked between 8:00 a.m. CDT on April 3, 2023 and 11:59 p.m. CDT on April 5, 2023 for travel during the Promotion Period and flown within the Promotion Period" - revenue flights means pay cash to earn it.

"3. Companion flies free* with you 8/15-9/30/2023. Not valid on flights purchased with Rapid Rewards® points" - this definitely means you can't fly on points then have companion fly for free since it is in the exact same line.

If it were what you are saying, the #3 verbiage would have to be at the end of #1.
