I opened an account online (no regional connection, no hard pull) and was able to fund $5000 with my Chase IHG (rewards club premier) credit card. The transaction didn’t go through initially, but after I called Chase and had them approve the charge manually, Great Southern was able to run my card again and it went through. Seems like it coded as a purchase so far (currently pending) given that my cash advance limit is less than $5000! Will update if this turns out not to be the case.

Direct link to offer goes 404. Deal is dead?

Bonus posted today. Did the transaction requirement with 10 $.50 cent reloads. Easy.

Signed up around the same time as other folks. It took a while in branch–the better part of an hour. My salary is pretty modest, so I was still firmly in “worth it” territory, but this may not be worth your time if you value an hour of your time at higher than $100 bucks.

walked in yesterday and signed up. painless enough, soft pull/chex. very similar to PNC – you get a few free checks and deposit slips, your debit card on the spot. They seem OK with Money Orders deposited at the ATM, but suggested the night-drop box instead. No mention of an early-closure fee in the paperwork (i didn’t ask explicitly).

Having some trouble enrolling online, and looking at my paperwork, they spelled my email address wrong, so that might be the problem. Since, as someone noted above, CC-funding additional accounts is not an option, i won’t be opening a savings. Also, when i mentioned to the guy that “i wanted to open this online, but apparently you can’t get the bonus that way.” he replied “well, you’d still have to come in at some point”. So, i guess they’re like Regions where you have to come in-branch to sign the signature card (?). I wish more banks would take the BMO approach and let you mail in the signature card (or US Bank, and go 100% paperless).

Going to use CirclePay for my 10 debits. We’ll see if that triggers the bonus.

account opened online after my banker (who opened my acct was very good about following up) gave me a temporary ID & password. it seems like their system tends to auto-deny people trying to enroll online, as this happens a lot (or he was just being polite, which is possible).

no ACH capability, as far as i can see, but the app lets you do mobile check deposit.

I’m also local to this bank. They do have an online account application (perhaps not for this offer) but cc funding is not an option, only ACH.

apparently you actually have to go in-branch to get this. Great Southern took over the branches & accounts that Fifth Third used to have in the region, and seem to be a typical bank, nothing special.

i have a branch literally 3 blocks from my house and will definitely be doing this.
