The Fine Print

  • Valid 3/13/16 until 3/19/16 (starts this coming Sunday)
  • Limit 1 per household

Our Verdict

Typically, these deals only make sense for those with an INK card from Chase or Amex Simply Cash since these cards earn bonus rewards at office supply stores. It happens that there is currently a targeted Amex Offer on some Amex business cards to get 5% back on Staples purchases of $200 or more, so this Staples deal can be useful to many.

If you have an easy way to liquidate Visa gift cards, then it probably makes sense to buy two $200 cards so as to maximize rewards. Otherwise, just get a $200 and a $50 to trigger the rebate.

Great find. Just when I thought Staples was getting out of the EasyRebates game for VGCs, I see it come back. Definitely will be taking advantage of this.

  2. Jan B says:

If only I had waited. I already did the Amex offer. Made $74.20. Plus I used an AMEX cash card that had a cash back balance that was too low for redemption; that’s why I accelerated. That, PLUS, finding a promo offer overshopped by the time I make it to the store.

This would have been such a nice top off.

  3. gary says:

my personal amex’s have 5% off $100 or more so will be taking advantage of this

  4. Chris says:

$6.95 activation fee for $200 card. $5.95 for $100 card. $3.95 for $25 card. $4.95 for $50 card. So at the least if you don’t have a rebate cc you get $8.

    • penny says:

might want to order a $300 rebate for $8.95 fees

      if you get a $200 GC and a $50 GC it’s $12.90 in fees.

So for an extra $50 spent, you pay less fees and get more rebate and plus whatever cash back you get on your CC

  5. Jcb says:

I don’t see any fine print on whether online or Instore only – is this correct?

It says limit one per household – does this mean one order so I could do 3 $300 GCs?

    Thanks

  6. Amy says:

Went to Staples yesterday. Picked up 4 visa 200.00 gc. When I swiped my ink bold card the POS asked that I used an alternate payment method. Cashier had no clue. Tried it again but it would not let me pay with my bold card. So left with nothing. 🙁 I’m new to this, so I was probably doing something wrong. Did anyone else encounter issues?

    • Chuck says:

I’ve never had trouble. Maybe try calling Chase to see if it was a Fraud Alert issue. Large purchases often trigger fraud alerts, if the system isn’t used to you making such purchases. Call Chase and ask.

    • Kevin says:

I had exactly the same issue with my Chase Ink card. So I called Chase customer service and turns out, the transaction was “suspect fraud” due to the amount. So I cleared my account with the CSR on the phone and went back to the local Staples tried a 2nd time and it went thru. So yeah, it might just triggered the alarm and all you have to do just call Chase and verify the translation.

  7. Tom says:

I went in today and it posted as a fraudulent charge. Would not go through. Chase sent me two emails if I made the charges click yes or no. I clicked yes and it sends a message to chase.
