3/8/18: Certificates have now been sent out via email.
The Settlement
- Staples has agreed to a settlement of $10 in Staples Rewards for the following: All United States Staples Rewards® members who, from March 24, 2009 to April 25, 2017, [1] bought a Rewards-eligible product and a non-Rewards eligible product in the same transaction, [2] used an item-specific coupon on the non-Rewards eligible product, and [3] were negatively impacted by Staples’s pro rata coupon accounting.
The Fine Print
- Must submit claim by July 24th, 2017
- Must exclude yourself by July 24th, 2017
Our Verdict
If you’re eligible I think you should have received an e-mail (subject line ‘Legal notice of settlement of class action’). Not the biggest pay day if you are eligible, but $10 in rewards is $10 in rewards. You can view other class actions we’ve covered here and our introduction to them here.

Holy Crap! Staples isn't doing rebates anymore? What will happen to my copy paper resale gig? Noooooooooooooo.
Got mine on 3/8. 4/30 exp
Once in a while they will have puffs tissues on sale; however, you will need to go in store or otherwise pay shipping under $50.
Used it towards a label maker that's half off today. Used store pickup, cb portal and the rest on a staples gift card.
Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Kleenex. They offer price match, so you can get Target or Walmart Price.
Got the email this morning.
Anyone have ideas on how best to use this $10 reward for someone who very infrequently shops at Staples?
I've been doing this for a long time. Simply wait till they have the 1 cent paper after rewards available. The paper may sometimes cost $7.99 plus tax when purchase it, you would be charged with $7.99 only with no tax, and issued a $2.01 balance coupon. Submit the rebate online for a rebate VISA card in the amount of $7.98 3-5 weeks after.
Sometimes the paper may cost like $5.99 and the rebate card may be just $4.99, check your email, they only send out the coupons $0.99 per use at check-out, so here is what you do:
1. at check-out, tell cashier your rewards account number
2. Scan the coupon that you receive in your email, the coupon code is the same so some cashier may not even follow procedure but just enter that for you when asked,
3. $5.99-$0.99=$5, that $5 will pops up on the screen
4. Pay $5 with your rewards, and as long as your rewards cover the total amount, there will not be any tax
5.Paid $5, issued a $5 balance coupon.
6. Submit rebate online, get the $4.99 rebate VISA card 3-5 weeks after.
You end up paying 1 cent on the paper, say it's free paper. You liquidate the rewards into VISA debit card that can spend regularly.
You forgot the part about time traveling back to the time when Staples still had rebates.
Hope im wrong but i think staples killed rebates. Haven't have one in 2018. I just redeemed all my discover cashback for staples gc beginning of the year too. :(
I had a rebate at the end of January when I bought 4 cases of paper in store, no coupon required but it was an in-store offer after rebate. The price of paper has gone up considerably at Staples so I might just switch over to Office depot and see if I can work the numbers with portal bonus and rewards to justify flipping the office depot card they issue for their rebate or just churn their gift cards back for more cashing out "someday"
Postage stamps if allowed? Idk almost everything at Staples has such a high markup unless it's rather inexpensive it's possible your $10 in savings turns to zero compared to getting it elsewhere for less.
You cannot buy USPS stamps or any GCs with Staples Rewards.
While I was MSing at Office Depot one day I bought a stapler. Paperpro 1110 is the make/model, and it is amazing. If you do a lot of stapling it might make sense to pay the difference and pick it up.
I tried to order a target e-gift card, but wouldn't work. Shipping kills the deal if not close to a Staples.
You can't use rewards, gift cards, or coupons to buy a gift card at staples.
Oddly, they don't have any products with rebates currently so there is no way to cash out that way.
maybe buy TP? one always needs that...
Staples Rebates are dead as of early Feb 2018. Decision appears to be from new private owner of Staples. Was discussed on SD. Very unlikely we will see 1cent paper in the near future, unless they decide to go back to rebates.
Yeah, TP, PT, hand soap, such things. Or do 110% PM to Amazon for electronics, phone cases, etc.
you're right, i totally missed that... i wasn't paying much attention to Staples anymore.
thank you.
The rewards cert expires by Apr 30th, 2018.
