  • I like how the most vocal people in the comments here don't even have executive memberships at Costco and will not be affected by these changes anyway.

  • Not really an added hour where I’m at as they currently open at 9am for everyone. Gonna suck to work the door for that first hour for a while…

    • It'll be like scanning at the door. All they need to do now is have a buzzer sound like the scanner for non-executive members who arrive too early. Just like American Airlines

    • You'd be surprised how many people cannot sleep past their "usual" wake up time. Usual being something that they've done for decades on end. I suspect there will be plenty of "beating the crowds" people out there.

  • CostCO = Cost+Membership + Buying Uneccessary Bunches + Long Drive+ Wasting Gas, + Wasting Time + Wasting Money + Ruining Earth

    • From what you said, (1) Costco is not nearby your home (2) your family size < 3. Otherwise I think Costco is well worth the membership money. good quality + competitive price so you don't need to waste time shopping around or looking through the internet.

    • Where do you do your shopping that is better? Because I can think of MANY retailers that are much worse in these areas...

      • I don't buy what I don't need,
That's the most important thing to practice!
I get free groceries Ads from multiple grocery stores in the mail every week and mark those I really need that is on sale for that week such as Canola oil, Toilet papers , etc
then go to a grocery chain in my neighborhood that price matches everything on those Ads .
Even without having that grocery chain for the price match looking at your weekly grocery Ads and buying things on sale will be a lot cheaper than Cost Co without needing to deal with the hustle and bustle of shopping at Cost-Co
Believe me getting 5 or at times 10 Lbs of Idaho russet potatoes for 99 cents or one Cantaloupe fur 99 Cents or 8 paper towels for $3.99 feels good .
Plus I have an EV and when I go shopping in the city I'll come back home with only couple of mile usage of the charge while driven about close to 10 miles round trip .
        That feels great too .

I forgot to mention I earn 5% cash back from my groceries all year long either via Cit Custom Cash, Chase or Discover too !!

        • As a family of 5 with young kids, there are many things that we save money at Costco. Kids love mac and cheese, Annie's organic 12 pack is $16(which has gone up). At a regular grocery store or Whole Foods these are easily $3+ per box. Instant $20 savings right there. Just buying a few of these per year would pay for my membership alone.

It is very true that not everything is a deal however, and there is no way we would be able to cut out going to a regular grocery store every week.

4% cash back(2% executive and 2% visa, 7% when Chase does warehouse clubs). Just the 2% executive cash back pays for my entire membership, not just the exec upgrade. There are usually a few bigger ticket items each year on top of the usual items. Not to mention I've gotten a lot back over the years with price adjustments within 30 days after buying.

          • Just make sure you stay healthy and capable to walk inside the Cost Co store 12 months after those shopping to be able to stay upright in front of that register counter in Cost Co to Cash in those rewards that you've earned a year before !! compared to regular 5% cash back cards that you can redeem your Cash Backs right after online and from you phone or pc, The Facist Business Model can go to Hell as far as I'm concerned

  • Damn - I was banned from instacart because I kept creating new accounts to take advantage of the great 50% promotions... Otherwise I could of got some use out of this.

  • Opening an extra hour every day equates to higher labor costs in the long run, so this is not a cost-saving tactic on Costco's part.

Either Costco is desperately trying to retain executive members without offering any substantial new benefits, or another membership fee hike is on the horizon and these changes are just a way to justify the increase.

    • Does everyone else’s Costco open at 10am? For my CA store this isn’t an hours change as they open at 9am, it’s just a limit on members.

    • Probably trying to compete with the (much better) perks Sam's Club gives their Plus members.

    • They just raised the membership cost so that is not on the horizon. It could be to try to alleviate traffic as that sometimes dissuades customers.

      • Most traffic at Costco during the week is either during lunchtime or evening rush hour, and opening an hour early does absolutely nothing to alleviate either.

        • My location is pretty slow in the evenings, easiest time to get in and out. Mornings are the worst. Not exec member so I can only hope it does alleviate a bit for me going at 10.

  • A $10 discount on $150+ is practically not useful. Even with IC+, they still charge a service fee, although a reduced one. If you don't have IC+, Sameday charges 9% more. This is on top of their average 10% inflated list price per item. The only saving grace was discounted GC, and that's gone too.
