[Targeted] Amex Offers: 2x Membership Rewards Points Everywhere up to 100,000

The Offer

reports receiving the following targeted Amex Offer on his Platinum card.

  • Get 2x Membership Rewards points on all purchases made with your Amex Platinum card both in-store and online

Typically, the Platinum card earns 1x everywhere; with this offer it will earn 2x everywhere.

The Fine Print

  • Expires 10/30/16
  • Max 100,000 Membership Rewards points (I’m not sure if that means $50k in spend or $100k in spend)
  • Valid only in US and US territories

Our Verdict

The best MR-earning possible is typically 1.5x everywhere with Everyday Preferred, so this offer easily wins at 2x.

Check your Platinum cards to see if you got this one; looks like this offer is targeted to Platinum cards only. No luck for me on my Platinum MB card; let us know if you see it.

  • It could be targeted at those who have not been using their cards all that much. I am seeing Elan managed cards and DiscoverCard both with similar incentives to use their respective cards.

  • So, I decided to harass Amex's chat service to see if I could get the offer as it wasn't listed for me (total fail btw). The good news is that I can clarify the terms. In addition to needed the direct offer, they provided me with the following language:

"This offer is limited to 100,000 additional Membership Rewards points earned per enrolled Card."

So, it seems it's 100k additional points ($100k in spending), and it's per CARD not per ACCOUNT. Not sure a single account would get targeted twice, but you never know I guess.

  • not on my personal platinum -- AF due next month, this helps make my decision to cancel easier

    • Agree with what Nate said. I have also felt left out of the more interesting offers. If DoC posted you can bet I wasn't targeted. Just noticed that the 5,000 MR points for a referral "featured" offer I remember from this morning was gone this afternoon. My next AF due in March definitely will be met with a card cancellation.
