The Fine Print

  • Must book through Viator US website or mobile app in US dollars
  • Bookings through TripAvisor do not qualify

Our Verdict

Viator is mostly used for booking tours & activities.  Not the worst deal, but I’ve found a lot of the things on there to be low quality bulk tours. Had a lot more success with smaller operators that aren’t listed on these types of platforms.

  • Make sure you do comparison shopping when using viator.
Many packages cost more on viator compare to over travel sites for some reason.(sometimes by a lot)
However, some museums like the Midway museum in San Diego are priced exactly the same on viator and the official site.

  • Good deal when combined with shopping portal earnings. Under any Viator listing, you’ll find the name of the operator under “additional info”. I recommend googling that which will at least give you a sense of how long they’ve been around based on the number of reviews they have, quality of reviews, etc.

  • anyone know if booking a tour abroad will trigger a foreign transaction fee?

    • Every viator listing I’ve seen, even when the tour is abroad, is paid in USD. Viator San Francisco, CA is what appears on your credit card statement. So no foreign transaction fee applies.

  • Was able to use the last iteration of this to buy tickets to Disneyland Paris. Nice discount.

  • This is awesome - I already had a booking with them in 2 weeks and I just changed the credit card on file. Thanks!

  • how did you find those smaller operators without using these kind of platforms? @2

    • I guess word of mouth, partnering with hotels for example, and then eventually the good reviews hopefully speak for themselves
