Our Verdict

The best offer on this card is currently two free nights at any Hyatt property, $50 statement credit after first purchase and 5,000 for adding an authorized user. Is the 40,000 point offer better or worse? That depends on what sort of properties you want to redeem for, it’s basically just 40,000 points vs two free nights and $50. The Hyatt award table is as follows:

So if you’re staying at category five or higher, then the two free night offer would be strictly better. But the points offer does open up the possibility of points and cash stays:

I’d say the points offer also gives you greater flexibility on what to do with the points from the authorized user and the $2,000 spending requirement. It’s a shame that the 10% points back promotion has ended (although I suspect this timing isn’t incidental). Personally I think this bonus is more valuable than the free nights, but I prefer more lower end properties than a few top end properties. Last year they also sent out a targeted bonus for 50,000 points, so maybe Chase/Hyatt are trying to find the sweet spot to offer a points bonus on.

Why did you say the 10% bonus has ended? It goes through 10/31, no?

i’m currently over 5/24. i know the hyatt card is not included but so is the british airways card but my application was denied. i got the invitation, does that increase my chances of getting approved?

i’ll be eligible for this next September. Now i know to hold out for points, not certificates (I never go anywhere fancy enough to warrant them)

Any way to check for prequalification? Or just hope you get an email? Ive been wanting a points bonus for this card for a while, not interested in the two nights anywhere at this point.

Points don’t expire after 12 months.
2 nights expire after 12 months.

This is a great point. I ended up burning the two free nights I earned on this card at a Cat 4 because I signed up before I had a specific use and ran up on the year.

I’d take 45k over 2 free nights unless you have a specific Cat 7 redemption planned within a year. I say Cat 7 because of the flexibility and opportunity to use Points+Cash that the points afford you over free night certs.

Would you suggest applying for the 2 night offer asap in case this development means that offer may be pulled soon?
