The Offer

Direct links to offer

  • Earn 15,000  bonus Starpoints after you spend $15,000 in qualifying purchases on your registered SPG Credit card from American Express from the time you register to December 31st, 2017

The Fine Print

  • Enroll and earn 30,000 Starpoints® or more after you spend $15,000 in qualifying purchases* between the time of enrollment and 12/31/2017. Purchases must be made on your Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card starting from the date that you complete your enrollment and ending on 12/31/2017.

Our Verdict

We saw a similar bonus earlier this year but some people were targeted for spend $10,000 & get 10,000 bonus as well as this offer. That one was also targeted towards personal cardholders and this looks to be targeted towards business cardholders. Generally American Express targets cardholders with the annual fee due during this period as well. Earning 2x SPG points is strong due to the fact you can transfer them to so many airlines at a 1:1 rate (and also get 5,000 bonus miles when you transfer 20,000 or more) and they also transfer to Marriott at a 1:3 rate (useful for hotel + air packages). Plus I find SPG points to just be valuable in general.

I tried to enroll a few days back when my card was approved and I got the “We’re sorry. This promotion is only open to invited Card Members.”

Tried today and I got “This page is temporarily unavailable.
We’re sorry. Our systems are currently unavailable and we are unable to enroll your Card at this time. Please try again later.”

Weird

Wife got it on her SPG Biz card, I didn’t. Now we’re trying to figure out how much of a lift it would be for her to make $15K spend in 3 months (without going to The Mall, since that seems to be out now).

0/3.

Not targeted on any of the accounts of the 3 accounts in my family. We all have new cards (both personal and biz) from the 35k bonus around May. I guess they are targeting customers who are about to hit the 1 year mark.

the error

“We’re sorry. Our systems are currently unavailable and we are unable to enroll your Card at this time. Please try again later.
Thank you for your interest in this promotion and for your continued Card Membership”

is typically occurred when you are accessing the link using mobile platform (cell phone, tablet)

you would get better response when using computer

My spg biz card with AF due during that period isn’t targeted, so there goes that theory…

I have an SPG Biz card and, as per usual, was not targeted for this spending incentive promotion (haven’t been targeted for a single one on any card of mine). Got the same “unable to enroll” message when I tried to enter my info.

Just checked on my SPG biz and got the “We’re sorry. Our systems are currently unavailable and we are unable to enroll your Card at this time. Please try again later.
Thank you for your interest in this promotion and for your continued Card Membership” message.

It’d be useful if you mention it’s only for SPG “biz” cards, DoC.

ps, guessing by your moniker that I’m not the only “piled higher & deeper” dolt who got into the miles & points hobby upon realizing the tenured track to travel support wasn’t ever likely to pan out…. (and funny thing, now I’m hearing more and more institutions of higher administrative salaried types are cutting back on travel…. ) You have a blog ? 😉

Lol’d at your comment. I’m still trying to finish that damn dissertation (on the job market this year), so no time for a blog unfortunately. I basically got interested in miles and points when I wanted to find a way to make better use of my conference travel reimbursements once a year. Fingers crossed for one of those you-don’t-need-to-teach-at-all postdocs next year! I promise to start writing a blog then 🙂

Good for you. Mine was in ’88 from Purdue School of Pharmacy.
