The Offer

Check if you were targeted

eBay is sending some users the following offer:
  • Get 10% in eBay Bucks on purchases made in-app of $25+
  • Get 6% in eBay Bucks on purchases made online of $25+

The Fine Print

  • Only invited, registered eBay Bucks participants who receive the promotional offer from eBay in My Messages are eligible. Sorry, no forwarding—the offer is not transferable.
  • The Promotion starts at 5:00AM PT on February 25, 2019 and ends at 11:59PM PT on February 26, 2019 (the “Promotion Period”).
  • The Promotion applies to any qualifying items purchased during the Promotion Period that meet the minimum purchase requirement.
  • You must activate the offer to qualify.
  • Qualifying items exclude all items in the following categories: Classifieds; Business & Industrial, but only for Heavy Equipment within that category; Real Estate; Gift Cards & Coupons, including eBay Gift Cards, Gift Cards, and Digital Gifts within that category; Bullion within the Coins & Paper category; and all categories in Motors, except Parts & Accessories.
  • Rewards are capped at $100 per transaction and $500 per Earn Period. See eBay Bucks Terms & Conditions for other program restrictions.
  • Purchases must be completed during the Promotion Period and paid for before the Promotion ends.
  • eBay reserves the right to cancel, amend, or revoke the Promotion at any time.

Our Verdict

10% is sweet. It likely won’t stack with a portal, though, since it needs to be an app purchase. I’m usually targeted for Bucks offers, but not this one.

  • As other comments have mentioned, some phone app portals (Ibotta, Ebates, etc.) work together with the app bonus. Would just like to add another portal that should work: Drop. Almost always 1.5% for eBay.

  • Maybe a silly question, but can you then turn around and use the ebay bucks to purchase gift cards?

      • Must one complete the purchase from within the eBay web page hosted inside the ebates app, or can one then open the eBay app and complete the purchase that way? I ask because if you must use the hosted eBay web-page from within the ebates app, I would think the eBay Bucks would track as "online" and not "in-app" since that's really what it is (or so it appears).

        • I have the ebay app on my phone so when it opens the mobile page, it asks if I want to view in app, which I do and I see ebates at top left (on ios) like I do when I click through ibotta.

One note is that ebates has select categories that that are strict on for ebay while ibotta seems to be a little more generous on what they count as qualifying.
