The Offer
Many eBay/Paypal credit cardholders are getting the following targeted spend offer:
- Get 500 points with every $50 you spend through November 30, 2017; max 4,000 bonus points
The Fine Print
- Must activate first; activate by November 30, 2017
- Offer valid through November 30, 2017
- Purchases must postÂ
- Please allow up to 2 billing cycles for your Reward Points to post to your eBay Extras Mastercard account
- Max 4,000 Bonus Reward Points
Our Verdict
Remember, 500 points is worth like $4.15 when cashed out (6/5 ratio), so this isn’t quite 10% back. Maxed out, you’ll get 4,400 points (4k bonus + 400 base) which is roughly a 9% return on spend. You can try doing a bunch of $50 restaurant or gas purchases since those always get 3x rewards which is pretty good. Personally, I’ll pay $400 to my insurance premium.
As far as I can tell, there’s no need to do eight $50 purchases, you can do a single $400 purchase and get the full 4,000 bonus points. I might do eight separate $50 transactions to be sure.
I’m curious if the new Paypal Cashback 2% Mastercard is also getting these targeted spend offers. The Paypal/eBay card is pretty good with these, they send out maybe 4 offers per year.
Some readers got a better offer:
- Get 4,000 bonus points when you make a $50 purchase
Wow, that is sweet!
If I have several purchases that add up or exceed the $50, does that qualify?
Or do I need to have a minimum $50 purchase?
I think it’ll work, but can’t guarantee that.
I see they had several of these in 2015, but a search of this site for ebay/paypal shows nothing for 2016. Wondering how consistent/strong these offers are (looks like the christmas ones from 2015 were pretty good but the offseason one this year not so much), trying to decide if its worth the hard pull.
Interesting to see value in cards folks don’t consider much–kind of like the Sears Citi card. Given that it comes from Synchrony might be one to put on a radar screen after low hanging fruit has been gathered.
I have the PayPal Cashback (2%) Mastercard and have not (or did not) receive(d) the offer.
Thanks for the DP, I was wondering about this.
Also does your card only gives CB and not points, or are they points that can be redeemed as cash?
It gives cashback, no points are given. No redemption threshold or minimums to redeem cashback.
Does work on purchases that are made as debit backup?
Not sure.
No. I tried it during a promotion several months ago and it did not trigger the bonus.
Thanks. Bummer
Can confirm it doesn’t work as debit backup.
