Our Verdict

In terms of the easiest three partners, I think the following are your best options:

  • United shopping portal. Buy something small you need anyway
  • MileagePlus X. See above.
  • MileagePlus Dining Program. Dine at a restaurant you’d dine at anyway.

Fairly easy promotion to complete if you’re targeted.

I got the targeted offer but am wondering if it is bait and switch – I already use the shopping portal – under that partner it says ” Earn 500 bonus miles when you spend $125 within two weeks of your first sign-in. ” I tried to clarify with United Social Media (who knew nothing and referred me to the regular MileagePlus channel). Do you read it as ANY portal spend qualifies towards the 3 partner bonus or only if you have never shopped there and spend 125 within the first 2 weeks of being a new member?

Neither Groupon purchase has showed up in my or my S/O’s account. I’ve emailed them and am awaiting for a response. Until then I’m trying to find something small to purchase, at least for my S/O’s account.

DoC, just came across this. I don’t know if this is new or if I’ve somehow missed it in the past:

My S/O received the United offer (I did notice it at 1st). Just-in-time being that I had 2 Groupon purchases to make on MileagePlus that increased itself from 2 miles to 10 miles/$ until today.
The only thing is that I use a separate browser for her accounts and when I went into her account to make the Groupon purchase it came up with my account. I was tempted to try it except for the “by invitation only” rule. I may try it anyway because the worst that could happen is that I get 10 miles/$ of in which I received on my account and should be in other people’s account which lasts until today only.

I recently signed up for the American Airlines AAdvantage dining program. I seem to remember an earlier Doctor of Credit post that said a single company handled all the airline dining programs and that you could only belong to one airline’s program at a time. Is this correct?

You can definitely belong to more than one. The spend is tracked by the credit card you use.
I regularly change the program to which my various cards are linked in order to take advantage of spend bonuses that occasionally come up.
I believe the sign up bonus would be only once though.
