[Targeted] Paypal: Get $10 For Every $500 In Direct Deposits (Max $300 Bonus)

The Offer

  • Paypal is offering some people up to $300 (30,000 points) for making qualifying direct deposits into their Paypal account.
  • Get $10 for every $500 in direct deposits, up to $300 total (that would be with $15,000 in direct deposits).

Poke around the Paypal app (maybe the website too?) to find the offer. If you open the app > click on rewards block under your paypal balance > click on ways to earn, you might see it as one of the featured offers. Or you can go to Accounts > Rewards. Or hamburger menu > Rewards.

Max reward limited to first 20,000 customers.

Our Verdict

It’s pretty cool to be able to get $300 in bonuses without even having to open an account. $15k in direct deposits is steep, and hopefully regular transfers count too (I don’t have the fine print in front of me). I wasn’t even aware that a regular Paypal account has a routing/account number, but apparently that’s a thing.

Reader Matt sent this one in a couple of weeks back and today reader TDD sent this one in with a further expiration date, so they seem to be slowly targeting people for this offer.

  • Bad thing about paypal/venmo promotions is the limit of participated customers. You have no idea if the number is already reached.
You can't complains to get the credit. I've been burned multiple times with this kind of promotion fine print.

  • *** CAUTION: PAYPAL IS NOT A BANK. THEY CAN CLOSE AND HOLD YOUR FUNDS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS WITHOUT ANY CAUSE.**

Read the comments below before you think “oh easy money!” Unless you are totally cool with your money being held for 6 months + and having to basically provide PayPal your entire life story without them having any reason, I would stay far away from this offer.

PayPal closed my account without any reason. Never got one. Keep my savings account and PayPal balance hostage for 6 months. And this was when I was just using PayPal to buy items or get money from friends. Can you imagine the hey day they will have with those depositing checks and quickly removing the funds??? Sounds like money laundering. If you are keen to find out then by all means FAFO. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

  • Any I doing something wrong?

    1. Wise is charging a transfer ("send") fee - is there a workaround on the fee?
    2. Wise is not letting me connect to my PayPal account via Plaid, etc. ?
    3. I am only seeing a "Send" option but not an ACH option ?

Please help out the NuBee here, thanks!

  • I'm seeing $100 in total rewards, with $5 per $500 dd'd up to $10k in total deposits.

  • Qualifying Direct Deposit” is limited to direct deposit sent by Automated Clearing House (ACH) of i) funds from a payroll provider or gig payer, or ii) government benefits. It does not include, for example, person-to person fund transfers, transfers from a bank, brokerage or other account or federal or state tax refund direct deposits.

My question is: is this really true? Or can I make a ACH transfer from my bank account?

    • The only DP that I know of working besides a "real" DD is TrD. However, it's possible that other "fake" DDs also will work as a QDD. The question is, how lucky are you feeling?

  • Thanks, subscribed, gonna do $500p/m w/ PayPal Debit deal. My acct has been going strong since 199X-ies, but I've heard many horror stories w/PP and more w/PP mafia :)
    OTOH
My Honey (owned by PP) was silently shut down, and I unknowingly used it as a portal for over a year. I still get their emails, but I'm Shadowbanned from their support. As soon as I enter my email, they go silent. I haven't done anything shady at all. Does anyone have experience with this? CFPB or BBB, what's the best approach in contacting them without upsetting PP? I haven't combined it with PP, and I've never redeemed anything; I still have about $200 in Honey.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

    • No advice, but I'm also shadow banned from Honey. Never heard of anyone else in this boat, but following-

    • My account was from the 90’s. Locked suddenly in November. No reason. No suspicious transactions. They refused to give me my money…. Good luck.

    • That's interesting. Is yours also limited to 20K people? Since it's a different offer, it should be a separate pool of money.

      • Yup! Also limited to 20k people. I am guessing it must be a separate pool. I'm a little sad its capped at $150. But free money is free money!

      • Why would it be interesting? It's only 1%. My Comenity Bread account is giving me 4.21%.

        • @guest_2065070,

#1. I meant that it was interesting that @guest_2065042 has a different variation of the offer.

#2. You are comparing apples to oranges. The 1% has nothing to do with the 4.21% that you cited.

          • @guest_2065070,

I would have given the same answer as @guest_2065089 gave you more or less. 😉

          • Yes, exactly. You can get this bonus and then transfer the money wherever you want for interest-earning purposes. So this is basically a free, instant 1% (or 2% depending on the the offer you receive) that doesn't stop you from chasing yield elsewhere.

  • My app rewards says earn up to $150 (15k pts) but when I tap on it, gives me an error page.
