I always find it a bit sad that these programs exist, it would be nice if teachers were able to get the supplies they need but unfortunately that isn’t reality so these freebies can help.

Rent-a-calc is an actual freebie and a really nice gesture by that company. The Paper Mate deal isn't - it's a "free gift" for adding Paper Mate items to your school supply list. In other words, force dozens of families to buy this item, and we'll send you one free. I find the Paper Mate incentive to be very underhanded.
Don't think you need to actual distribute the supply list, so it's still a real freebie.
Not signing up to see for sure, but it sounds like anyone (presumably teachers) can create a list. It doesn't say people have to buy stuff off the list, just that you have to add it to your list. Doesn't say how it'll be fulfilled though.
