The Reselling Angle of the eBay Gift Card Deals

We posted the many eBay gift card deals going on now and the basic details.

Let’s calculate the reselling side of this. Since the bonus Bucks is ending in a few hours, we’ll calculate the profitability both with and without the bonus Bucks.

Reselling Staples

$100 Staples e-gift card for only $85. Limit 3

  • Pay $85 for each of the 3 gift cards (-$255)
  • Sell to Cardcash for 81% (+$243)
  • Get 8% back in Bucks (+$20.40)
  • Get 5% back from the portal (+$12.75)
  • Get 5% back from INK (+$12.75)
  • Net profit: $33.90
  • Without Bonus Bucks: $18.60

This is a very good deal with the bonus Bucks, but you are dependent on Cardcash not lowering their rates.

Reselling Lowe’s

Update: Sold Out

$100 Lowe’s gift card for $90. Limit 3

Lowe’s gift cards can be resold for 83% of their value. Here’s the math breakdown:

  • Pay $270 for the 3 gift cards (-$270)
  • Sell for 83% (+$249)
  • Get 8% back in Bucks (+$21.60)
  • Get 5% back from the portal (+$13.50)
  • Get at least 2% back from the credit card (+$5.40)
  • Net profit: $19.50
  • Without Bonus Bucks: $3.30 (not worth it)

Not much risk here with price fluctuation since Lowe’s should hold steady.

Reselling Kmart

$50 Kmart e-gift card for just $42.50 from Paypal Digital Gifts. Limit 3.

Kmart e-gift cards can be resold to Saveya for 84% of its value. Here’s the math breakdown:

  • Pay $127.50 for the 3 gift cards (-$127.50)
  • Sell for 84% (+$126)
  • Get 6% back in Bucks (+$7.65)
  • Get 5% back from the portal (+$6.38)
  • Get 5% back from INK (+$6.38)
  • Net profit: $20.41
  • Without Bonus Bucks: $15.31

Reselling Best Buy

$100 Best Buy e-gift Card get free $10 eBay e-gift card. Limit 2

For the sake of these calculations, let’s assume that you value the $10 eBay gift card as cash (which isn’t accurate) in order the make the calculations easier.

  • Pay $90 for each of the 2 gift cards (-$180)
  • Sell to Saveya for 88% (+$176)
  • Get 8% back in Bucks (+$16)
  • Get 5% back from the portal (+$10)
  • Get 5% back from INK (+$10)
  • Net profit: $32
  • Without Bonus Bucks: $20

Reselling Gamestop

Buy a $50 GameStop e-Gift Card & Get a Free $10 Code ($60 Total Value). Limit 2

  • Pay $100 for $120 in gift cards (-$100)
  • Sell to Saveya for 83% (+$99.60)
  • Get 6% back in Bucks (+$6)
  • Get 5% back from the portal (+$5)
  • Get 5% back from INK (+$5)
  • Net profit: $15.60
  • Without Bonus Bucks: $11.60

Reselling Lord & Taylor

Buy a $50 Lord & Taylor e-gift card for only $40. Limit 5

  • Pay $40 for each of the 5 gift cards (-$200)
  • Sell to Saveya for 76.5% (+$191.25)
  • Get 8% back in Bucks (+$16)
  • Get 5% back from the portal (+$10)
  • Get 5% back from INK (+$10)
  • Net profit: $27.25
  • Without Bonus Bucks: $15.25

Note that this carries a high risk of devaluation on Saveya’s end as the rates can very easily go down. I don’t recommend this if you are completely reliant on Saveya.

Reselling Overstock

Buy a $100 Overstock.com e-Gift Card & Get a Free $20 Card ($120 Total Value). Limit 2

  • Pay $200 for $240 in gift cards (-$200)
  • Sell to Cardcash for 75% (+$180)
  • Get 8% back in Bucks (+$16)
  • Get 5% back from the portal (+$10)
  • Get 5% back from INK (+$10)
  • Net profit: $16
  • Without Bonus Bucks: $4

Other Options

There’s also room to look into the JC Penny and TGI Friday’s and the Jiffy Lube. I trust you’ll be able to calculate those on your own 🙂 .

Saveya is no longer buying Kmart gift cards. Believe it or not, they have oodles of $50 ecodes for sale. I guess I’ll wait for the fallout of this deal to dissipate.

Wouldn’t taxes just eat up any profit since these are earnings and one is obligated to report them?

Many people say that about working a regular job too. Or earning interest on their deposit accounts, or making money on investments in the stock market. Unless you are being taxed at 100% then taxes aren’t eating up the profits. You just have to decide for yourself if you would rather make money and be richer at the end of the day, or leave that money for someone else to make.

I would also add this — did you know that if you buy something from Amazon or eBay (or any other company) and the company doesn’t charge you sales tax because it’s out of state, you are legally required by your home state to report that purchase to them and calculate and remit sales (use) tax to your state? Did you know if I fix your computer when it has a virus and to return the favor, you come over to my house and help me paint my living room one Saturday afternoon, we are legally required to report the value of that barter exchange on our income taxes and pay taxes on it? Or you may be required to collect and pay sales tax to your state on your yard sale junk and get a business license from the city to have one, depending on where you live? I don’t think they let you pick and choose which ones sound good to you. You could spend your whole life trying to interpret the tax code and figure out what few $5 and $10 of taxable income you’re under-reporting, or you could just let the IRS straighten you out on the minutiae someday if you got audited. But I’d think it’s safe to say if you’re making a small living from buying and selling gift cards, maybe you should open a business! 🙂

inboxdollars.com is the only place that supposedly pays 5%. Fairly new to most people with a few saying it pays out even though it takes 4-6 week for them to track.

Under “Cash Shopping Earnings” there is a zero dollar amount so when you say it takes 4-6 weeks to track do you mean it takes that long for them to show your earnings?

Mine showed those things when I had a balance but It wanted to use the entire balance first. Now that I have no balance there is no option to use a card. Do you have a balance in yours?

As long as you have a balance on your PP account it always uses this first. Has always been like this. Ergo: never keep a balance. Always w/d to bank and the next minute you can make any purchases you want with your favorite CC 😉

A bunch of these rates are way better at gift card mart. Oren wrote about them tonight and I became a bulk seller last week. (Apparently they only have bulk sellers now)

Overstock and GameStop at 85, staples at 86.05, best buy at 88.25.

Worth it to have more options

The weird thing about them is…. **At this time we have suspended payments via ACH and Check by Mail, but we hope to return these methods in the future**.

You have to have a dewolla account in order to get paid? wtf is that?

I hadn’t heard of Dwolla before either so I asked about that.

The way it was described to me was that Dwolla is electronic, so checks don’t “get lost in the mail” like at gift card rescue and Dwolla offered them the cheapest cost way to send payments.

The only other gc site I’ve seen use Dwolla is gift card spread, but that’s just for purchasing GCs

It’s another online/mobile payment system (wallet) – you can add money and withdraw money by adding a bank account – to some extent it serves the same purpose of Paypal, except that you cannot fund your account by debit/credit card, so the fees are much, much lower.

And sending money to friends doesn’t run the risk of having your entire account nuked for “potential fraud”

I’ve used dwolla for about four years. They’re definitely legit, and imho better than paypal.

I’m running into all sorts of issues checking out with paypal. I think I’ve hit the $1000 in redemption or purchases or whatever that freaking limit. Argh!!

Oh not to mention I couldn’t even purchase 3 lowes or staples card since they combined to be over $250, another freaking magical number paypal doesn’t like transactions to be over. So I had to settle 2 cards so the total would fall below $250, it went through.

Instead of selling the game stop gc, you can also use it in store to purchase Amazon gc. I did this last month.

Or, if you don’t have a use for the Amazon gift cards, go buy gas gift cards at Game Stop and resell those. Shell gas gift cards will get you nearly another $10 back.
