Tips For Purchasing Walmart Giftcards & What To Do If Your Orders Are Cancelled

At the moment there is an extremely good American Express sync offer for Walmart: Spend $50 & Get $10 back. Apart from Walmart being a super popular store that lots of readers make purchases from, they also sell gift cards. Unfortunately a lot of readers have had their gift card orders cancelled so I thought I’d share a few tips and what to do if you order is cancelled.

Tips For Ordering Giftcards

Here are some tips for ordering giftcards without getting your orders cancelled.

  • Contact them via chat to explain the issue. It seems the chat representatives can do something on their end to prevent the cancellations.
  • Some people have had better success ordering physical gift cards instead of electronic.
  • Take it slow, adding in filler items might also help.
  • Create a new account. This might help if your account has been flagged for some reason and customer service can’t help.

Feel free to share your own tips in the comments below.

If Your Order Is Cancelled

If you order has been cancelled and you’ve received the congratulations e-mail then you can still get the $10 back but you still need to actually spend $50. Just keep in mind when you place another order, you won’t get another congratulations e-mail. For example:

  • Purchase $50 in gift cards
  • Receive congratulations e-mail
  • Order cancelled!
  • If you don’t make another purchase of $50+ you will not get the $10 back.
  • If you do make another purchase of $50+ you will get $10 back, but you won’t receive another congrats e-mail.

F.A.Q

It excludes corporate gift cards, what does this mean?

Walmart has a corporate gift card program, you can find that here. The aim is that corporations will buy giftcards from Walmart to reward their employees. If you’re buying regular gift cards then you have nothing to worry about when it comes to this exclusion. We discuss this more here.

I’ve successfully received 8 egift cards in the last few days (I’ve been spacing them out just in case). I’ve ordered all on an account that’s a couple years old but rarely used. Timeline:

7/20: 1st attempt- canceled immediately.
7/20: 2nd attempt- canceled immediately. Chatted with a rep who opened a case and told me to try again 45 minutes later using the same payment method.
7/20 (2 hours later): 3rd attempt-canceled immediately
7/21: 4th attempt- canceled immediately. Chatted again and was told the same things as the before (wait 45 minutes, try again).
7/21: 5th attempt- success!

Not sure what happened but the second rep must have done something to allow my account to complete gc orders because I’ve had no problems since the 21st. Keep trying!

Similar experience here.
First 2 orders went through.
Then 3 days in a row: cancellation, chat with the rep, 30 minutes later successful order for 2 etc.
then second and third time rinse and repeat.
Interesting that I was able to order on 7/30 without cancellation (4th round of orders.
Got 8 Walmart egc and 2 Uber cards.

Walmart site is terrible…was told that my physical gift card order was good through Chat and today which was delivery date, I chat with Walmart.com agent and was told that there was system error and he cancelled my order.
What a BS…and horrible system.
Possibly intentional in a way since so many people ordering due to AMEX offer??
Anyways, tried one more time today and hopefully this one is not cancelled by them.

The order cancellation email was received after I hit purchase button. However, after couple minutes I got the order confirmation that said it’s been processing. Very interesting!

The canceled page should appear in about 5 minutes. Have you checked your Order Status page again?

FYI to those who got several $50 WMgc, you can consolidate them into one GC via SCO. Just press the *purchase/reload GC then press reload on the next screen. It will ask you to swipe the card you want to load the funds. When it’s time to pay, choose WMgc from list of payments and the $50 on that will be transferred to the first card you swiped. I have done this a lot of times w/o cashier intervention to consolidate various WMgc with small balance so I don’t carry a lot of plastic.

Those who are going on road trips, know that when these GCs are used at Murphy gas stations you’ll get 3 cents off per gallon.

*this works ONLY for WMgc, if you’re buying VGC, you need to go to cashier.

Fyi, if you have a Wal-Mart gift card $50 or less and you need to book a hotel room. You can go to Hotels.com site and exchange it for a Hotels.com GC. They will give you slightly more than the GC is worth. Hope this helps somebody. Love in Christ.

This is going to seem pandering, but I love that you respond to 88% of comments. Like, you guys already offer a plethora or free info, and you still take time to respond to readers even when they’re complaining (me). You’re awesome.

they kept telling me to try again in 30-60 minutes. I now have 6 pending (Canceled) trans on my BRG haha.

Very, very weird that Walmart can’t figure out eGift cards. Maybe they can ask Amazon for some help 🙂

After two failed attempts I chatted last night and was told to try again in two hours. I waited until this AM and tried again; same thing (immediately canceled). I now have three pending $50 charges on my PRG.

I chatted again and they advised me to use the exact same computer/app and same payment method and try again in 30 minutes; I’m not hopeful. Note that everything I’m entering is an exact match to my bill down to the letter.

On the plus side, my order of a physical GC made with my BCP on Thursday is still ‘pending’ but the chat rep said it is scheduled to be shipped on Tuesday, so that will be what I try with the PRG next, although not until the first one ships.

I’m undecided if I even want to try for third one with my Everyday card… the frustration isn’t worth $10.

Tried a single $50 Walmart egc on an old Walmart account I have used for gift cards and normal products.

Could this potentially work? (Questionable if this amount of work is worth it for the gc resale rate) purchase an item, and then return it and have them issue a Walmart gc instead of going back on card?
