Update 9/8/20: CBP has announced that these centers reopen today.
Update 7/21/20: Reopening has been pushed back until September 8th until the earliest.
Update 7/1/20: CBP has announced that these centers will not reopen on July 6th and will not reopen until at least August 10th.
Update 6/26/20: CBP has announced that these centers will reopen on July 6th.
Update 5/26/20: This closure has now been extended until at least July 6th, 2020.
Original post: CBP has announced that it will extend the temporary closure of the Trusted Traveler Program enrollment centers until at least June 1st, 2020. Previously it was announced that these would be closed until at least May 1st, 2020. This means that interviews for Global Entry and other similar programs will not be able to be conducted. On Monday we posted that the grace period for global entry renewals had been increased from 12 months to 18 months.
Applied to renew Global Entry on Sept 10, 2020, received full approval (no interview required) on Sept 11, 2020.
I applied in December of 2019 for NEXUS. All my interviews have been cancelled. Now my enrollment center in Blaine is not accepting appointments anymore. Splendid.
Been pending for 10 months to get conditionally approved . Anyone in the same boat?
Yep, I’m starting to think they forgot about me. Wife applied same day an got conditional approval in a month. She is an Irish citizen, maybe they are doing foreign people first.
Same.
Yep, i’m in the 10 month boat Bunch of idiots “running” that “department”. Utter disgrace
This doesn’t make any sense. Put the federal agent behind one of those plexi-glass shields, everyone wears a mask and stands six fee apart and limit the number of appointments in a day so there isn’t a bunch of people sitting in a waiting room together. Any agent over age 60 or at higher risk for other reasons is reassigned for now.
My Global Entry expires in mid-August of 2021. No anticipated international travel for the rest of 2020, though potentially some travel in 2021, but TBD.
Can anyone recommend whether I should try to renew now if possible, wait til July 31 of next year to renew, should I let it lapse til I finally book a trip, or should I choose some other date?
Renew now. I got my approval without an interview in less than two weeks.
We had the Global, but now only want to renew the Precheck… which there does not seem to be a way to do that. What a pain this is becoming. I can not imagine anyone getting this renewed for a LONG time.
It might be useful to add this for those of us waiting to schedule an appointment after they open to avoid the constant cancellations: Every applicant now has 545 days from the date that CBP conditionally approves his or her application to complete the enrollment process. In addition, CBP will extend for up to 18 months the program benefits of members who apply for renewal before their current membership expires.
This info is up to date as of 7/22/20 with the push back to September 8th.
My wife got conditional approval 9 months ago, every appointment got canceled, her next one is in January. 545 days is a joke at this point.
Interview was cencelled again… It’s difficult to get one, however, it’s automatically cancelled without notification…
Darn! I just paid the $100 for GE for P2 last night, using a card that offers it as free benefit. So does it mean it was wasted?
No, you paid the application fee which is the first step in obtaining conditional approval, which can take anywhere from one month to a year. The approval is required before you can set up the appointment at the enrollment center.
To add on to what PJ said, as long as you’re not flying this works to your benefit. The card will credit you the application fee every four years, which means that once you’re approvedfor GE, your actual 4 years timer starts but your credit card timer will have already been ticking. Be glass half full
