Two Profitable eBay Gift Card Deals: TGIFridays & Toys R Us, Total Profit Of $16+

eBay is currently offering two gift card deals that are profitable, let’s have a quick look at them. In both cases you buy the gift cards at a 20% discount and they can be resold for 80% of facevalue. This means you’re breaking even, but on top of this you’ll also earn the following:

  • Credit card points (at least 2% cash back)
  • eBay bucks (2% in value)
  • Shop through cash back portal Topcashback to get an additional 1.1% cash back

That’s an additional profit of 5.1% of what you paid for the gift cards. Now let’s look at the two promos:

If you purchased all 8 possible gift cards you’d pay $320 and profit $16.32. If you’d previously purchased eBay gift cards at a discount, you’d do even better.

Got burned on this churn. Sold them to GiftCardRescue for 80% and they sat on them and then reversed the sale. Forced me to mail them a prepaid envelope for return shipping too or they claimed they would confiscate them in 30 days. They are fraudsters. In the mean time value dropped 10%. I think TGI will bounce back with time, just not sure if it is even worth waiting. All in all I’m going to take a $35 loss and about 2.5 hours of my time for this debacle. That will be the last time I’ll buy a GC I feel may be a pump and dump. The risk and aggravation is just too great vs. the minimal profit.

I added 4X Ebay Bucks to my account this morning and couldn’t figure out why I was only seeing 2% back. I finally looked more closely at see that it starts 8 AM PDT (11 AM EST).

I guess I wasn’t that clear. I wasn’t asking why I this happened as I figured it out myself. I was advising other people in case they weren’t aware. Thanks anyway.

I just checked GiftCardWiki and only Gift Card Zen offers 80% for TGIF. I know for a fact that a few weeks ago CardCash offered about 80% on TGIF and now only offers 75%. Isn’t this taking a big risk that by the time you receive the gc in the mail the rate will fall like the others to 75% (or less)?

There is always a risk involved with Giftcard churn. Its like a stock market. Not for faint hearted.

I don’t think that’s a good analogy. In the stock market you have a risk of a much greater loss and a possible reward of a much greater return. I meant that this specific deal seemed like a bigger risk since at best you’re making a few % at at worst you’re losing 5% or more. Now that Ebay Bucks has a promotion today this is a much safer deal in my opinion.

You are right, analogy wasn’t that good. But I wanted to point out the higher risk involved in Gift Card Churn. I made a good overall profit of 8.1% in last 4 months of Gift card churn. But there were some transaction where I literally lost 2 to 3% by the time I got cards in mail.

Ebates currently has 2% cash back on eBay…… Is it not working on gift cards?

While not a great deal there is also a $100 for 90 Babies R Us and a $200 for $175 Hyatt Card through svmgiftcards that are a small profit if you have discounted eBay GCs.

Thanks Will! A nice way getting rid of the $300 eBay GC from the Gyft father’s day gig 😉
