Update 3/31/22: Readers are reporting a new mailer offer being sent out with a higher $750 bonus, but it has a higher $9,000 spend requirement. (ht Scoobs and Paola)
Original Post 8/2/21:
As expected, U.S. Bank has launched a new business card – the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Business Card. Card has no annual fee and comes with a $500 signup bonus, $100 annual software credit, and 3% cash back on gas, restaurants, office supply, and cell service.
Signup Bonus
- Get $500 signup bonus when you spend $4,500 within the first 150 days.
U.S. Bank is weird and does does not count spend on employee cards toward the minimum spend requirement.
Rewards
Card earns the following cash back rates:
- 3% on select categories:
- restaurants/restaurant delivery
- gas stations (“purchases of gasoline greater than $200 will not be deemed to be a purchase of automotive gasoline and as such will earn a reward of 1%”)
- office supply stores
- cell phone service providers
- All other purchases earn 1%
No limit to the amount of rewards you can earn in the 3% or 1% categories. Rewards never expire.
Cash Rewards may be redeemed as a statement credit, U.S. Bank Rewards Card, or deposited to your U.S. Bank business checking, savings or money market account.
$100 Software Credit
- Earn an annual $100 statement credit for recurring software subscription expenses such as FreshBooks or QuickBooks.
An automatic statement credit of $100 per 12-month period will be applied to your Account within two statement billing cycles following 11 consecutive months of eligible software service purchases made directly with a software service provider. Eligible software service providers are identified by their Merchant Category Code (MCC) and purchases made at discount/retail stores or online retailers may not qualify.
I interpret this to mean that if you have a monthly QuickBooks or Excel subscription for $10 each month, then when the 12th monthly consecutive $10 charge posts to your account you’ll get $100 credit. I’m not sure what happens if your monthly charge is, say, $6 – would you still get the $100 credit, or get $72 credit, or get no credit (my guess is $100).
Other Card Details
- No annual fee
- No fee to add employee cards
- 3% foreign transaction fee
- 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers. After 15 billing cycles, it adjusts to a variable APR, currently ranging from 13.99% to 22.99%.
- Card works with with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay
Our Verdict
The card looks interesting for the $500 signup bonus, the $100 software credit, and some will find the 3% categories worthwhile as well. Check out these Things to Know about U.S. Bank Credit Cards before applying, including the fact that U.S. Bank does not report business cards to the credit bureaus.Â
There’s apparently two versions of this card – a Visa and a World Elite Mastercard. Seems the public links are for the Visa card and the affiliate links are for the Mastercard. So strange. All other details are the same. If you want the Mastercard version, don’t use the link in the post (above), instead find an affiliate link with the Mastercard link. If anyone has a non-affiliate Mastercard link, let me know and I’ll add it in.
Shows up as ding on personal credit
All credit cards result in a hard pull. It just won’t show up as a card on your personal credit report.
Recently got this card and seems tough to figure out what codes for software credit. Reddit thread about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/comments/15nz0em/us_bank_triple_cash_business_card_100_software/
DP: Currently still have a Triple Cash card opened 7/2022. Applied for the same card on 3/3/2024 using a mailer and received an approval email midnight 3/9/2024. We’ll see what happens with the SUB.
DP: No instant approval but was approved w/i 24 hrs via email. 25k limit
Applied at midnight, TU was pulled in the next morning, not at the time of application.
Called recon and they said to wait, nothing they can do or need from me. Approved with $3,000 limit after 5 days.
Sole Prop, used both SSN and EIN, $15k biz revenue (1099-NEC). EIN is optional.
Previous log in credential (closed checking account) is revived automatically .
Same issue here. TU was unlocked, but no hard inquiry after I submitted the application at midnight.
“Sorry, this wasn’t supposed to happen. A technical issue on our end interrupted your application, but there’s a good news! We have enough info to review your application, and you’ll hear from us within two business days.”
Also applied for this card as sole prop and it went pending saying ‘I will be notified of the status in mail in 7 to 10 days. Will post if approved.
Applied for this card as sole prop and it went pending saying ‘I will be notified of the status in mail in 7 to 10 days, or email if chosen’. I have business account with US Bank.
Is it good idea to call and check, or wait?
San Got that on my last two US Bank cards. First time, with this one, got an approval email in a day or so. The personal one though I never got an approval email but did get a card is on the way email in a couple days. So I’d wait it out.
I waited about 7 days and was then approved. Never called.
Opened this card recently and got a hard pull on it even though its a biz card
It’s a credit card, you’re going to get a hard pull.
Being a biz card the only difference is that it may not appear on your credit report or count toward 5/24.
I churned this card and closed about a month ago. Today I got a mailer offering the same exact offer with a code…think its churnable? Dont see anything about it in the fine print.
Well I applied using the mailer, same exact info as the same card I already churned and closed 1 month ago. Will match spend again and see if I get the bonus.
I got the bonus twice on two different triple cash cards, but it was a longer time period between them.
How long after the 150 days did it take for your account to say you had the $500 pending?
U.S. Bank is the worst their whole setup is so unorganized…
I got the cars in early September, completed the spending requirements on October 5 and received the bonus on October 23.
I’ve gotten the bonus twice. You shouldn’t really have any issues
Kyle I got the mailer and let it passed since I literally had just closed this a few weeks prior How long was it between your close / open?
It was roughly 2 months between close and open.
Just FYI Backblaze does not count for the software credit, it is categorized as shopping and customer service also confirmed it does not qualify.
Thanks for sharing this DP. I just got the card and was going to test out Backblaze myself, but will now have to figure something else out. Anyone else have DPs on what works?!
