Used my amex credit the other day on delivery. I hear some retched noise outside my apartment and go look out the peep hole. The delivery person is standing there hacking away with a very productive cough as she takes a picture of the food by my door. Uber’s response to a safety submission? Auto response after 20 hours of “We take your safety seriously, please provide a ratng for the driver and restaurant.” What is a thumbs down going to do? The people need to be classified as real employees and Uber needs to be held accountable.

That sucks; it’s usually possible to break through the pro-forma response and get satisfaction when Uber when there is a real issue. Hope you can. But a definite nope to the last part of your comment.

May cause safety issues if the driver is out of breath or wears glasses

You do realize that most people wear the same mask over and over, rendering the mask pretty useless. And numerous articles have said the masks are more of a feel good thing, they make people feel safer even though they accomplish very little as far as the virus is concerned. This article from England sums it up perfectly:

“In February Dr Jake Dunning, head of emerging infections and zoonoses [infectious disease spread between humans and animals] at Public Health England, told The Independent that there is “very little evidence of a widespread benefit” in members of the public wearing masks.

Dr Dunning explains there are a number of reasons why they aren’t effective. “Face masks must be worn correctly, changed frequently, removed properly, disposed of safely and used in combination with good universal hygiene behaviour in order for them to be effective.”

And most of the paper options being worn do not have a respirator to filter out infectious air particles.

If they are not worn properly and are loose fitting it means that bacteria can easily access the nose and mouth. Experts have also warned coronavirus could enter the body through the eyes.

Even when users do comply with these rules initially, research shows if users wear them for long periods of time they gradually become slack and are less likely to do so.

A 2008 study published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases found “compliance” with proper masks use was less than 50 per cent, meaning half the people in the study did not keep wearing them as directed.”

True, it doesn’t protect yourself from getting infected. It can, however, prevent transmission of virus TO others from yourself through droplet transmission (sneezing for example).

Please see: https://www.wsj.com/articles/is-it-time-to-wear-a-face-mask-11585855788

The biggest benefit of wearing a mask is protecting others from you in the event that you are sick or asymptomatic, experts say. “When going out to the grocery store, we might be able to protect the grocery clerks from us by putting them on,” says Dr. Milton.

Because a sizable amount of coronavirus transmission may be through asymptomatic carriers, or in the days before someone develops symptoms, universal mask-wearing could help. “Even people who feel well may be shedding viruses, and [mask-wearing] can help prevent [droplet transmission],’ ” Dr. Allen says.

But if you are trying to protect yourself from getting infected from someone else, masks aren’t as effective, studies show.

This is up to date information from science journal, CDC recommendations, Experts who deals with SARS and CONV 19. Wearing mask is to prevent asymptotic person to spread virus unknowingly. IT IS NOT TO PREVENT YOU TO CTACH THE VIRUS

And you are quoting people from UK which they have little success to contain the virus, look at places like South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong. They all wear masks

It isn’t only exposure to the virus that matters; the *viral load* (i.e., the number of virus particles that get into your system) matters a great deal. It determines how severe one’s resulting illness (if any) will be. And studies have shown that even homemade masks, even a T-shirt worn over the face, reduce viral load a great deal.

And, yeah, what others said about protecting others by wearing a mask, not only yourself.

Just put your mask on. My aunt has diabetes. We all need to wear masks indefinitely to protect my aunt and other aunts.

Thats all relevant if we are talking about high filter mask used to prevent the mask wearer from getting infected. We don’t have enough of those mask for the general public so that info is irrelevant. The point of a mask face covering that most have access to, is to prevent the wearer from transmitting. In that situation reusing the mask does not matter. It keep the droplets from getting beyond the person. Many are walking around asymptomatic and they are the problem.

Hopefully, they won’t be wearing N95 masks while driving. There was an accident in NJ that may have been caused by wearing an N95 for too long while driving.
