[Update] U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Temporarily Allows $325 Travel Credit For Dining Purchases; Also 3x Points On Dining

Update: It is now a permanent benefit to be able to use the travel credit for dining purchases.

Update 11/26/20: This is now valid until June 30, 2021. Hat tip to reader Josh

Update 6/10/20: Readers wondered why this wasn’t being sent out to cardholders: reader Mark now finds it in the US Bank online credit card login (Reward Center > My Rewards > Redeem Rewards & Access Card Benefits > Access my card benefits > Dining Offer).

Original Post:

US Bank’s premium card the Altitude Reserve is getting two temporary benefits for June 1 through December 31, 2020:

  • Dining, takeout, and food delivery purchases will count towards the $325 annual travel credit through the end of the year. This is an additional option on top of the Travel option.
  • Card will earn 3x on dining purchases (regularly just 1x) through the end of the year; this category includes takeout and delivery as well.

We’ve received this information from reliable sources. According to the info we’ve received, these benefits are already live since June 1; if anyone can confirm seeing it already in their Altitude Reserve login, please let us know in the comments.

I imagine US Bank will communicate these new benefits to cardholders directly, and perhaps release it in the coming days in the media as well. It was just made known to their bankers today.

Worth noting that the $325 annual travel credit is based on cardmember year, not calendar year, so it’s possible that some people will be able to max out TWO years of $325 credits on Dining purchases if their card renews sometime during this 7-month timespan.

Our Verdict

We’ve seen most banks with premium cards make various additions/perks to their cards during this time of minimal travel; not surprising to see US Bank do the same. The dining credit option isn’t as easy as grocery/gas that Chase did or grocery/restaurant that Citi Prestige did, but it still is a nice additional option, especially with the takeout and delivery services being there as well.

The temporary addition of 3x dining is also a nice bonus on top of the ordinary 1x earning. A lot of people use mobile payments to get 3x everywhere, but this is useful for someplace that does not have a mobile payments option.

Any idea if the 3x restaurant credit has extended beyond 6/30? It would make sense because travel credit can now be used for restaurants and the no annual fee Altitude Go offers 4x on restaurants.

According to my latest stmt, my restaurant purchase in July wasn’t awarded 3x.

I’ve just realized I’ve done exactly zero of my $325 credit (I wonder why) and have about a month left until my anniv date. I assume it will work fine to get a restaurant gift card(?), but are there other travel gift cards that work?

Does the annual travel credit reset on Jan 1 or is it linked to card opening date ?

Anybody has any success in getting retention offers for altitude reserve lately. I called in today but only offers were to downgrade the account or lower the apr to 11.99 for 6 months.
This will be my second renewal and I got nothing last year as well.

That’s how I’ve been using my points during quarantine. Pay for Uber Cash in the app and use real time rewards. Then I get deliveries with UberEats using the credits.

Thank you! Does that trigger the $325 credit reimbursement as well?

My annual fee renews every May 14th, already used $325 travel credit for this year.

Since this is now valid through June 30, 2021 does that mean I get *another* $325 from May 14 – June 30 for restaurants?

Thanks for the heads up. I have the card, but missed the original June announcement (I was probably more interested then in using my AMEX Honors Aspire resort credit at restaurants). With Altitude points being worth 1.5 cents for travel redemptions, this seems like the best card to use at restaurants. For sit-down restaurants, I have had little success paying by mobile app (maybe 20% of the time it works, and there’s always that awkward interaction where almost no server knows whether it will work), so being able to use it with the regular payment method will help.

hopefully they keep the rest of the card the way it is. Even if they raise the annual fee to maybe 450$ I wouldn’t complain

Interestingly, the Postmates section is no longer on the card benefits page. Either an announcement is imminent or the special benefit with Postmates fell through?
