Our Verdict

I actually don’t mind low cost carriers and I’ve always wanted to visit Iceland so these deals are actually appealing to me. That being said, this type of flight isn’t for everybody and as I get older I can appreciate why these deals aren’t for everybody. When booking flights like this, you should know what you’re getting yourself into otherwise you’re going to have a very bad time.

If you’ve flown one of these routes before, please share your experiences in the comments below. Loyalty Traveler also has a good post on this deal.

My family of 5 flew BWI to Iceland on Wow. It was a great experience. Yes, we paid for baggage but brought along water and it was only a 5 hour overnight flight so we didn’t need to purchase drinks or anything else. Would definitely fly them again. Very nice, professional, no complaints.

I had an okay experience flying with WOW air from Amsterdam to Boston (via KEF). It was cheap, the aircrafts were new and comfortable, and they were bang on time. However, they charge you even for water (6euro for a small bottle).

I flew on WOW to Amsterdam (with a layover in Reykjavik) and it was great. Yes, they nickel & dime you for everything (even water), but the staff is friendly, seats were comfortable, flights were on time, and the cost of my ticket was less than half of every other carrier. I would definitely fly with them again in a heartbeat.

I priced out a few trips – fares are low but taxes are pretty high. A sample trip from New York (EWR) to Cork was 26.5% taxes on top of the fare.

Total for two tickets was nearly $940, so don’t get too excited about a $69 rate until you see all the extra costs involved (baggage fees, etc.)

I have to agree. Currently. there are rt flights from LAX-LHR for 429$ low season on other major alliance airlines. Where you get at least 1 checked bag, meals, even water. The one thing I like about LCCs are that they drive the prices down for the bigger airlines to just enough that it’s worth it.
