Direct link to offer

  • American Express are offering some Blue Cash Everyday cardholders the opportunity to upgrade to Blue Cash Preferred and get the following bonus:
    • $150 cash back after you spend $1,000 within the first three months

blue cash preferred

Card Details

  • Annual fee of $95
  • Card earns at the following rates:
    • 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 in spend annually, then 1%)
    • 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations and select U.S. department stores
    • 1% back on all other purchases

Our Verdict

You’ll want to read these two posts before considering this:

The good thing about upgrade offers is that they don’t do a hard pull and you’re also able to get the bonus if you’ve already had the card before (and can get the bonus in the future if you haven’t had the card before). If I got this offer I’d probably take it, you’re getting $55 after $1,000 in spend when you take into account the annual fee of $95 but you’re also getting access to 6% in cash back at U.S. supermarkets. If you can’t take advantage of that bonus grocery store spend, the offer is definitely less enticing. If anybody knows of any other upgrade links, share them in the comments please.

I got a $250 after $2000 spend upgrade offer for my Amex blue cash everyday card. I requested the upgrade and got approved. Hopefully they didn’t do a hard pull. I asked the agent but he wasn’t sure if there would be a hard pull.

I had a blue cash preferred card before, and I saw the upgrade offer in my online account on a different blue cash everyday card. I called Amex to confirm if I am eligible and they said that since I had the blue cash preferred card before, I am not eligible for this offer. Now I see online that people have got this offer.. Confused!!! 🙁

So I did this offer, received my $150 bonus, and downgraded back to BCE before the AF hit. I now have another upgrade offer in my BCE account back to BCP but this one also includes 10% CB on dining plus the $150 bonus after $1k spend.

Thoughts on trying a 2nd upgrade on this account? Offer ends 5/3.

How fast did the $150 post after you spent the 1k?

I have the $150 offer again.. I want to pull the trigger. I don’t have anything to buy for a grand though. I’ve done two recent Amex cards with gift cards and everything was fine. Maybe mix some spend with some GCs. Thanks for DP!

One more question. I upgraded. Do I have to wait for the new card to arrive to spend the 1k or can I use the existing card? Thanks!

Just an update: Upgraded, bought the new iPad Pro 10.5 with a case and the $150 bonus posted a couple days later. Just downgraded. Thanks for great idea! Nice discount on iPad.

I have a BCE and previously had a BCP that I cancelled. Was targeted for this and upgraded my BCE to BCP. Funded BMO Harris checking account with the card $1000, received $150 statement credit day after $1000 funding posted.

Received letter saying AF wouldn’t be charged until May 7.

I wonder if I can downgrade back to BCE before the fee posts or if that will AA me…

Same here – will post data point when I try to downgrade, but what’s AA?

AA is adverse action.

I got the BCE when they were running the 10% off Amazon promotion. Would I have to deplete that offer before upgrading to the BCP, or would my leftover promotional offer carry over with me?

Also, does upgrading a card reset the x3 cap on requesting a credit limit increase, or would I have to get a new card and shift my credit allocations to increase that maximum?

I get the same message

For the past few days, after logging in, I keep getting “We’re sorry. The system is currently not responding. Your business is important to us. Please try again later. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Is this a sign my account is not eligible for this upgrade?

Anyone know?

rep told me that annual fee will be prorated for first year after Upgrade until anniversary of original no AF BC. meaning, if originally signed up for BC in July and Upgrade now in March they will only charge you 4.5/12 of the annual fee. haven’t confirmed yet; but that’s what rep told me unsolicited.

I read the offer terms in the link you provided and the prorated annual fee is mentioned. I got the offer, but probably won’t upgrade since I know I’ll have to downgrade again in 6 months for me to avoid the second annual fee. For others it maybe worth it, but seems too much hassle for what will be $100 for me after the bonus and prorated fees are taken into account for me.

Im confused. I received the upgrade offer on my BC to BCP for $150. I’ve never had a BCP. could I get this $150 then sign up for the $250 BCP card ?

No. If you take the upgrade offer for $150 you will not be able to get the $250 welcome bonus later.

You need to sign up for the $250 offer first then do the upgrade offer.

I’ve had the card before and it’s showing up for me. Of course, the upgradable card I have is the OBC
