[Ending July 28] Auto-Reload Your Amazon Gift Card Balance From Checking Account/Debit Card & Receive 2% Bonus

Update 6/29/21: The 2% bonus program is ending on July 28th. Hat tip to reader ShawntheShawn

Update 12/3/20: PPK codes as a debit and passes through the PayPal coding. Meaning if you have a linked credit card that earns 5x/5% on Amazon you’d be getting a total of 7% back. Hat tip to yiggity_yag

The Offer

Direct link to offer (our affiliate link, thanks for using it if you do)

  • Receive an additional 2% in Amazon credit when you use your checking account linked with a debit card to reload your Amazon gift card balance

The Fine Print

  • In order to qualify for this limited time offer, you must: (1) be the recipient of the corresponding offer on Amazon.com; (2) be a Prime Member and (3) reload your own Amazon Balance associated with the Amazon.com account to which you are currently logged in using your bank account and providing the required checking account and linked debit card

Our Verdict

Nobody should be using this offer, you can get at least 2% cash back by using a credit card and normally 5% cash back (you can currently get 10% back if you signed up for the Blue Cash Preferred or Blue Cash Everyday offers). This is more of a PSA not to use this offer. The exception would be if you needed to meet a debit card transaction requirement for a bank account sign up bonus.

This made me think of you guys. “Someone charged my wife’s card 132 times on Amazon over the course of 8 months and Chase won’t do a thing about it” Sounds like his wife has a secret hobby.

Looks like the 2% bonus ended a little early.
Worked for me last night, not showing the 2% tonight.
(I’m posting this around 11pm Pacific Time, which I’d assume is what Amazon uses.)

Sucks you can’t change the debit card before the 2% bonus ends. I got lucky and it’s stuck on my Point debit card. However I do wish it was stuck on PPK so I can use up some CC spend.

Not sure if it’s just me, but Amazon isn’t letting me change my designated 2% debit card. Maybe that functionality was turned off when the announcement of the program ending was made. It’s still showing the last 4 digits of a debit card which I don’t even have in my account anymore. Oh well.

That is, the “Save and Continue” button is grayed out even though I’ve selected a certain debit card.

Yeah, same for me for a few days now. It has happened in the past for a couple weeks and then randomly start working again but I’m not hopeful. At least mine is stuck on paypal key. But I cant use Visa debit cards, oh well.

Why should nobody use this offer? You are actually suggesting that people turn down free money? Also, what if you want to reload your balance without using a specific credit card to do it? The 2% Amazon bonus can be applied to each and every one of a person’s reloads, regardless of what type of card it is. It can even be added to gift cards that have a debit logo on them. Furthermore, it doesn’t require a credit-check, a special credit card, no minimum spend/reload amount… in fact, it has no strings of any kind… it’s just free money. It can be stacked on top of any other rewards or bonuses a person may have if they do happen to be using a credit card with a percentage back. So, please forgive me, but it just seems absurd to pronounce verdict that no one should be using this bonus. The value of a dollar, my friend, every penny counts.

I think that was written years ago, when the 2% bonus was only given when loading from a checking account, not from debit cards.

This sucks. PPK plus BofA CR was an easy 7.25% back.

William Charles Yeah – “nobody should be using the offer” is a bit generalized.
We get both, the 2% plus extra credit card rewards by stacking the PayPal Key to process our credit cards as debit card.
I also used the PPK/BoA CR combo for 7.25% back.

Bummer. At least it can still be used to keep sock drawered cc active by loading small charges.

Points debit card is currently offering 3x for Amazon purchases…can we stack with this 2% offer and potentially use to hit the $1000 spend requirement for intro bonus? Has anyone tried?
