I value 100 Marriott points at about $0, but this could be useful if you need to extend the life of your points (they expire after 24 months of no activity) or if you are a little short or an award you need. Is there any way without staying at a Marriott or buying or transferring points or redeeming points, to keep points active now? Waht is the minimu redemption option ?
So was this just a marketing scam to get our Marriott reward number?

Why does everyone seem to think doing this will extend the expiration date of your Marriott points? From what I can tell the rules are pretty clear that these do *NOT* count: http://www.marriott.com/Images/Rewards/Points_Policy/FAQs_Point_Expiration_MR_Member_Version_FINAL1.pdf
Has extended them in the past for similar promos despite what the fine print says.
