Our Verdict

This is always one of the most popular Prime day deals. Just remember that genetic testing isn’t for everybody – please do some research before purchasing this for yourself or somebody else. Here is a good place to start. Knowing that you’re at a genetic risk for something or a carrier for something can really play with your mind. I find these types of things really interesting, but not everybody will.

Another thing to keep in mind is insurance, especially life insurance and other long term insurance products. I can’t stress how important it is to do some research before purchasing!

  • I was about to buy it and ran a quick search - it appears that Target and target.com have the same test for $79.99 right now? Plus I imagine you could go through a portal/etc.

  • “The results of your test indicate that you are not quite white enough. ICE will be contacting you shortly.”

  • Yea no not even if they paid me. I'm already very clear where my ancestry is for at least the last 10,000 years.

  • You can get health report for free from Promethease (or $5 once they refert back to paid reports). The real deal is the $50 DNA info from 23andme.

Note that your DNA might be shared with other companies, stored at 23andme etc. Some might not be comfortable with this.

    • I have often wondered when these deals come up, is there anything that makes you use your real name in the registration? Couldn't we all just say our name is Doctor O. F. Credit? Then you would get the information, but no risk of being denied life insurance in the future.

      • they'll know your address of where you receive the kit and could possibly link DNA to those living at your address. you could go Anonym, and make sure use Anonym personal info they may ask. What sucks is they do not provide you with the raw sequence data files, which can help as medical science community identify more disease causing genes. You forgot to mention privacy, identity, and possibly security issues.
