The Offer
- Spend $100 or more with a registered Amex card at Macy’s or macys.com and receive a $20 statement credit.
This offer is targeted. I checked a few of my cards and haven’t found it yet.
The Fine Print
- Valid until 8/31/15
- In-store or online
Our Verdict
Macy’s doesn’t sell any third-party gift cards, but they do sell Macy’s physical gift cards in-store and they sell physical gift cards and e-gift cards online. If you have nothing to purchase now, you can lock in the savings by purchasing a gift card now and using it in the future. (Nothing in the terms indicates that this won’t work and I expect it work even on e-gift cards which are apparently processed the same as physical gift cards.)
There isn’t any profit in reselling the gift card since you’ll only get 75-80% out of it and portals don’t seem to work for gift cards at Macy’s.
When making the Macy’s purchase, be sure to link your Plenti account to get the extra .1% back there. (As Orensmoneysaver points out, this may not work for gift card purchases.)

Ha! What a joke Plenti is. I was thinking of using it for Exxon/Mobil fill ups...but then realized it was 1c per gallon savings. Point zero three percent savings wow!
You're so right. Better get gas gift cards @ Home Depot and use Discover. That nets me 10% or ~34¢/gal as per fill-up @ Arco last night. And Arco is the cheapest in town already even before the extra discount ;-)
