Cardholders of the Capital One GM BuyPower card as of 12/31/19 have received a $1,000 bonus that can be used for the purchase or lease of any GMC or any other GM vehicle (plus a few other options). It doesn’t look like you need to have done anything to receive this bonus.

I've used these cc dollars for leases as the down payment in the past. I just called them and they confirmed I now have that $1000 bonus in my account.
On a separate point, has anyone had any luck getting a credit line increase with their GM BuyPower Card? I’ve had it for probably 3+ years, a good credit score, etc. From googling, I’ve read that it seems Capital One doesn’t care much about this card, hence the lack of giving credit line increases. Is this true for any of you, or am I the outlier?
GM sends out these offers every once in a while to Buypower card holders. It's probably connected to slow sales months or wanting to meet some quota, so they're good for 30-45 days. I've received a bunch of these over the years.
If you plan to buy a GM product in the future you can save money by doing two things:
1. Get the GM Buypower card from Capital One (to get offers like these), but wait for the good bonuses, like the recent $2k towards a new GM vehicle for $50k spending.
2. Join Costco to get supplier pricing and a Costco cash card, up to $700 (for Executive members, basic members get less, I think it's about $300)
If you plan to buy at the end of a year, you need to join Costco no later than October 1st I think to qualify for their auto discounts and cash card. It might be Sept 1st. Not really sure since I've been a Costco member for a long time. :)
Thanks, I was not aware of #2; although I was not aware of #1 in the sense that I was offered a much smaller bonus (albeit for much smaller spend)
I have the buypower card for a few years already and I saved Tons of money on my lease of a Chevy equinox. The $1000 bonus is not their biggest, I've been offered $2500 in the past. The problem is that it expires quickly, so if your not in the market for a new car that month it goes to waste
I believe the employee pricing at the end of year season is much better than the current incentives even with this 1k bonus.
You could still use the 1k bonus with the end of season pricing...

"Credits" I've had forever can now be used to change the oil in my Infiniti at the GM dealer. That's where this is going.

Off final negotiated price. Don't mention the bonus or your GM card earnings until you have negotiated a final price. GM card is my all-time favorite card.
When I used mine a long time ago, I didn't have to tell them I had it until after I negotiated the final price, it said it right on the ceritifcate to do that. They then let me charge the max (3k at the time) to my GM card, then applied my rewards from the card.
But you've gotta get a GM...

exactly the problem..... Besides, GM's failed so miserably to make cars I'd want that they stopped making them (literally -- sic) -- and I essentially stopped using my GM card after I bought our failing 2000 Pontiac Montana. (yah, it's been that long -- the single most miserable car to repair anywhere.... case in point, it'll take you 3 hours minimum (if you're lucky) to replace a $6 thermostat, five hours to replace the EGR valve -- which usually isn't what throws the EGR code (but they don't tell you that).. but an easily clogged plenum/intake port) Rather easy for me to see why GM went bankrupt....
We used to be an all GM family.... going back to the 1920's..... even had two Mr. Goodwrench types in the family.... But that Montana and a Chevy Cruze that came without a cruise control -- sic -- the model with the extremely poor transmissions (that routinely fail within 10k of the warranty running out) together ended the luv affair with GM for us....
End of rant..... $1k is a drop in the bucket for a severely over-priced brand-name car that's about to be history.... Yup, sad to say, we're now a Toyota/Lexus family..... though with Scotty Kilmer, we never buy "new" anymore anyway. (esp. with the near-last-forever Lexus/Toyota fare).
Time to go for Tesla, man. Then you will realize Toyota/Lexus or any other car makers are jokes.

To each their I own I guess. I love my car. Used a similar 2K bonus a decade plus ago and the car still looks and runs like new. Sure, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it gets me from A to B and is cheap to maintain.
