When Chase announced that they were discontinuing the Fairmont card they also announced how it would be possible to earn a free night certificate:
- If you have spent $12,000 before August 14th they will deposit a free night into your account (either within six weeks of your account anniversary date or 8 to 10 weeks after August 15th – whatever comes first).
- If you don’t have the full 12 months to reach the $12,000 spending requirement they will give you the free night if you have spent more than $6,000 by August 14. Keep in mind if you recently applied then you have probably meet the minimum spend requirement of $3,000, so spend another $3,000 and get a free night.
Readers have been e-mailing me asking when those free night certificates would post and if other readers have received their certificates yet or not. If you’ve been waiting, check your account as the free night certificates should now have posted.

I spent $12K and got one that's good until next October. My anniversary date was August 4th.
My 3rd night showed up as well, expiration date of 10/16/18.
I did meet the $12k spend earlier this year, so that meshes with the others who have the extended expiration date.
Just received my 3rd Complimentary Night from Farimont! It shows up in my Fairmont account as: "Fairmont Visa Complimentary Night - Courtesy. Date Issued: 16/Oct/2017. Expiry Date: 28/Feb/2018".
I've already booked my future stay at Fairmont Miramar Hotel back in June by money (but they won't charge you until your check in date), and I just called the reservation line asking them to apply the Complimentary Night Certificate to my stay. Also, you can use other certificate ( Room/Suite Upgrade, dining) on top of the Complimentary Night.
Hopefully there is some flexibility on the expiration of this courtesy night, but I emailed President Club Guest Services via the web form to request a one-month extension of my original two nights and received an approval/confirm email within a few hours.
Can confirm what others say...
Opened Jan 2017
Only had to do 6k, but checked statement to see I did >12k spend anyways!
Got certificate that expiry one year from today
Not sure what the exact terms were - but my wife and I have had the cards for awhile (2 years). My certs posted today and don't expired until October 2018.
Yup, the expiry depends on when you opened the card (as did the spending requirement).
Btw, expiry date for my free night cert is one year, but my gf is 28th Feb. I think, anyone who spent full 12k got 1 full year of expiry, but anyone who spent only 6k they got "courtesy" cert with Feb 28th expiry.
Yup
I could have sworn something I read state it would expire 6 months from issue date.
Anyone know if it permissible (a hassle) to let a family member use my free night?
Thank you in advance for your reply, cheers
Opened the Fairmont card in Jan of this year and completed the $6k spend, including the initial $3k minimum, before 8/14. Mine posted today, thankfully before I checked into a Fairmont this evening: 2 free night certs, 1 free night anniversary cert, and room upgrade cert (3 levels above the standard Fairmont room). 4 nights with only 1 paid at the base room rate. Needless to say I'll miss this program.
Hedging against not having the anniv night cert available for this particular stay, I called previously about sharing or combining the cert with someone else. The Fairmont rep said that would be no problem, as long as both people are FPC members and both were present when the reservation is made by phone. In this case, my spouse has her own certs to use before 2/28/18. All reservations using FPC certificates have to be done by phone anyway.
Just to follow up re: anniversary free night expiration: emailed FPC on behalf of my wife and her soon to expire certificates. Requested one month and received extension from 2/28/18 until 3/31/18 for all of her certs including upgrades (except Chase card bonus nights with expiration already in May '18). So reach out to Fairmont and ask if you need a reasonable extension in this situation.
Separately, when we booked at a Fairmont in Vancouver in October ~6 weeks beforehand, the lowest available room was several steps above what's normally granted for a free night. Assuming no blackout dates, is Fairmont obligated to provide a room for free night bookings regardless of how expensive the available rooms might be? Is there a limitation to how close to the reservation date to make a free night booking, in hopes that the base rate rooms are sold out?
Imagine Citi starts issuing Fairmont Hotel cards to make up for the Hilton 😆
Fairmont Hotels was bought by Accor which is why the card was discontinued.
