Good thing you can cycle the Performance Business yearly for the signup bonus, and what will likely be the same perks. If you still are planning to fly southwest multiples times, or with large groups, but wont get to A-List, this still might be worthwhile, as it will be the only tier of SW card that gets to pick a seat at Checkin, and not wait until T-48. The loss of the $75 flight credit is rough, if that was still included it would be an easy stay, as long as you planned to fly a couple times a year. Without it, we will have to see how much seat selection typically costs. The math, 229 - 7.5k points(1.3cpp) = 131.50, 131.50 - $69(Lowest version annual fee needed for free bags) = $62.50. So if seat selection is $20-30 bucks, then you need to buy 2-3 tickets a year to break even.
How do you cycle every year. There is 24month language right?
Yea this is a no go if this goes Live taking a few more trips with them and canceling the card. Southwest has lost their minds.
They are serious about it. I got a survey from Southwest asking about the same list for the $229 AF.
Presumably all the points earned count towards the companion pass?
Feels like Chase got rid of their old credit marketing/branding department and decided to bring in ChatGPT.
So you are pretty much buying A list benefits without flying to be A list?
So...umm...like... they gonna open lounges or somethin' to justify this?
Would be an immediate cancel for me. I would assume that even the entry level card would have 1 free checked bag for me and 1 travelling companion and free standard seat selection at check in which is all I would need. Even harder to justify the annual points bonus as a real benefit when WN has shown they have no issue messing with their points system
None of the other personal cards will have the ability to pick any seat at booking. Only the Priority and Performance Business. Plus/Plus Bus gets select a standard seat wtihin 48 hours, premier gets select standard or preferred seat within 48 hours. So if you still plan to fly SW multiple times a year, the Priority annual fee might be worth it. Though the removal of the $75 flight credit is a blow.
Seems silly to cancel "immediately" Why would not wait for the AF to post so you can bleed Chase for all the card benefits til that date?
Same, unless there's a $150 retention like they offer some years. With 7500 anniversary points that effectively pays the fee.
Whoever travelling southwest after all these increase need to think twice.
Companion pass is a hell of a drug to quit
I might be willing to pay $60 for 7500 points. Then the calculation comes down to whether I'd be willing to pre-pay $170/year for the seat selection benefit and free luggage on all flights. If you don't fly much the card is no longer worth it but it would be easy to spend more than $170/year on seat selection and luggage fees if you fly enough.
