Citi Offering Retention Bonuses For Checking Accounts ($50 – $200)

It looks like Citi is testing or has rolled out automated retention bonuses for checking account holders that try to cancel their account. Reddit user TwelveBall was offered a bonus of $50 to $200 when they tried to close their account online. The bonus offered depends on the account type you have opened and requires debit card spend.

  • It’s been more than 365 days but no second offer for me. Has anyone been offered this again?

  • Here's the DP:
    10/8/22 - account opened
    10/21/22 - funded
    1/10/23 - bonus paid
    1/19/23 - refer bonus paid
2/2/23 - retention offer signed up over the phone
    3/15/23 - retention bonus paid
    3/18/23 - account closed

  • Note that per the terms, you can only do this offer once every 365 days. I enrolled in the offer end of March and got the bonus. I went to close my account last week and the offer popped up again. I was momentarily tempted but then read the terms and realized I wasn't eligible.

  • I was offered the same the retention offer too ... but I wonder ..
    1) Do we have to maintain the same account package?
    2) I don't remember being informed that I have to keep it open for 120 days after the bonus ... did anyone else? Or was that omitted on purpose? This would mean extra 90 +120 days for $50, right?

    • So that sounds like the $50 posted after 90 days?

Did you keep the same account type or downgrade?

  • Datapoint -- I signed up for this retention bonus back in April and completed the purchases around 4/5/22.
I'm citigold. The $150 bonus just posted yesterday 6/15/22.

  • did you guys receive the bonus yet? i still have not gotten it been months already
