The Offer
eBay is celebrating their 20th anniversary and is offering various specials for buyers and sellers.
- List an item from now through Monday September 14 and receive a 20% discount on the eBay sellers fees (“final value fee”). You also won’t pay any other fees for listing the item (a fee which sometimes applies). Maximum of 20 listings are eligible for this offer.
This offer is being sent out to some/all eBay sellers. If you didn’t get the email, you can go to the direct link above and it should let you save the offer to your account.
The Fine Print
- Must activate offer from email or via the landing page
- Valid for fixed-price listings or auction listings
- Free insertion fees and discounted final value fees will be applied to the seller’s first 20 listings created after activating the Promotion
- Valid on 5-, 7-, 10-, 30-day, and Good ‘Til Cancelled listings
- Only single quantity listings are eligible for the promotion
- Discounted final value fees will be applied to the total amount of the sale, including the cost of the item, shipping, and any other fees a seller may charge—excluding any sales tax
- The Promotion excludes listings created prior to a seller activating the offer or with a start date prior to Thursday, September 10, 2015 (including those listings revised during the Promotion Period); additionally, the Promotion excludes listings that are created during the Promotion Period, but scheduled to start after the Promotion Period
Our Verdict
This is a nice promo for eBay sellers or anyone with something to sell. The most standard eBay seller fee is 10% (this can vary based on a few factors) and you’ll be saving 2% under this promotion.
Your best bet is to list a bunch of expensive items as your first 20 listings, e.g. iPhones and similar. If you sell a $500 item, for example, you’ll save 2% or $10. Multiplied by twenty, that would be a $200 savings. (If you are selling that volume, you should probably pay for an eBay store though.)

- Sell a phone on eBay and pay just $5 for the eBay sellers fee. Valid until the end of September.
- Sell your phone on eBay and get up to $100 coupon to be used on eBay. Valid until the end of September.

Am I the only one that noticed this is for eBay.ca?
That's not what I'm seeing in the terms.

I see. But the fine print says it's good for ebay.com
So, if I sell my Sony Ericsson T637 (aka my paper paperweight) for $100 (since my wife really wants to buy one but can't at said price though eBay), then I get a $100 coupon?
Eh, not that great. I got a targeted offer a few months back that offered 10% back on the item's SALE price, which was essentially 100% back on the seller fees.
